I dont want anyone to be mad at me, but to me it looks like hes looking at Wasilewski to time when hes coming, before concentrating completely on the ball and going after it.
Look at the clip, hes just about to hit the ball, when Wasilewskis foot tackles it away, and by then, its too late to react and pull your foot away!

This is fucking nasty. Horrible ragdoll effect on Wasilewski's leg, not to mention the fact that Witsel saw what happened to the poor guy's leg and just casually walked away from the scene. I'm surprised he managed to walk off the pitch without being hammered into oblivion… Which might obviously still happen anywhere at any time as this footage spreads.
True. You do not go for the ball in that way, but as you also mentioned, he did not intent to cause this horrible injury, im sure of that. No one plays football to hurt other players, but it happens!

Dit is echt verschrikkelijk om te zien. Ik hoop dat witsel en serueze schorsing krijgt, maar dat is waarschijnlijk niet het geval.

ik wil mijn mening wijzigen in "onmogelijk te bepalen met absolute zekerheid". natuurlijk ziet hij die tackle komen, hij is niet blind he… en als je met dat omhoog wippen bedoelt als hij al op wasyl's been staat dan zeg ik ja natuurlijk, hij schuift vooruit, dat omhoog wippen is om zijn evenwicht te bewaren. wat doe jij als je uitglijdt, laat jij je vallen of probeer je recht te blijven?
