Netherlands caretaker coach Dwight Lodeweges maintained on Sunday that his side is “very similar” to Italy, as the two prepare to go head-to-head in the UEFA Nations League in Amsterdam on Monday.

Meanwhile, Netherlands players Marten de Roon and Hans Hatebeor both play for Italian side Atalanta and so have provided a good insight into what to expect.

The Dutch team opened their Nations League bid with a 1-0 win against Poland on Friday, while Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Lodeweges was promoted on a temporary basis from the role of assistant manager after Ronald Koeman left to take over at Barcelona.

Several candidates are in the frame to succeed Koeman, including Henk ten Cate, Louis van Gaal and Frank de Boer.
