For those clowns who put Vidic and Terry above him, I’d like to see those two try and play in the modern game with high lines and hardly any support from fullbacks.
AVB tried to play modern football with Chelsea, a high line and Terry got cooked big time. Terry excelled when he had a LB next to him who never crossed the half way line, first Gallas and then Azpilicueta. He always had a Matic or Makelele in front of him as well and a deep/mid block.
Ferdinand is the only defender you can compare to Virgil. I don’t care about individual honours or team trophies, you should judge players on one thing, their ability.

The most complete CB in Premier League history. The height, the strength, the pace, the ball playing ability, game awareness, he's got that pass too, he has got everything that you need if you are building a defender from scratch. As the new young fans would say…he's got that AURA.
As a Liverpool fan of course I'm going to be biased, but to say that VVD can do "a bit of everything" is a massive understatement. He can do A LOT of everything, which is why he's so good. Positioning, anticipation, aerial duels, 1v1, tracking back, long pass, command and leadership, he's got it all, and he's got it in truckloads. There's a reason why he's entering the debate of one of the best defenders in the league ever.
