Here are some tips on how you can stop a nonhunter or anti-hunter in their tracks when they claim hunters only go afield to satisfy some sort of blood thirst or quest for antlers. This discussion often involves otherwise educated individuals who simply don’t understand how the natural world works. It’s on you to educate them, and here’s how you can do it.

  1. All i can think about while watching this is that "carhart" shirt and the communist company that forced its employees to get vaccinated…. But i am a "Trophy Hunter" witch means nothing more to me other than killing a fully mature animal that 99% of the time provides me with more table fare as a mature animal than a lesser animal. With big antlers and mature bodies come big steaks and loins.

  2. I take 5 deer a year for the freezer, maybe 1 or 2 might be a buck. Nothing I kill are what people consider are trophy class deer..I hang the antlers up in the home office, only one in the past 8 years is a shoulder mount, and it's not a monster class deer, just a mediocre deer to most.
My friend is the opposite, he shoots only 150 class and higher and constantly tells me how I need to practice buck management. The biggest issue with that is he hunts high fenced massive acreage while I hunt a private 72 acre unfenced wooded area that is surrounded by 1000 plus acres of other privately owned properties. There simply is no control of breeding. I have a couple acres of clover and the rest woods and swamps, lots of deer but rarely does a truly big buck show on cams.
I'm pretty happy with my hunting opportunities!

  3. Trophy hunting to me is a full freezer ….. love the racks for the walls too, but in this day and age, helping cut the grocery bill, is a big deal to fixed income and low income family's

  4. Dan, great podcast. I especially agree with your comment about the amount of disrespect shown to deer on social media. I'm an old guy, 62, and I was on Facebook for about a year. I can't tell you how many arguments I got into with young guys that would post these moronic selfies of the deer laying on its back and them laying on their back next to it mugging for the camera. I finally had enough and just cancelled Facebook. Oh, btw, due to watching your podcasts, I re-subscribed to D+DH magazine after many years of not having a subscription. Thank you for reminding me how great the magazine is.

  5. I am a hunter but there are people that go out shoot an animal for the trophy and then donate the meat. I don’t think that is wrong but some people don’t agree. Some people believe if you don’t eat the animal you shouldn’t shoot it

  6. Excellent video, I would like to add that many of us hunters who are also landowners actually allow more deer a life that they would otherwise not have. This is done by all the food added specifically for deer along with timber stand improvements for both bedding and fawning grounds.
