Digging in too deep here, the Spanish have always turned their nose up at players who they consider to be runners more than anything else, I knew immediately that Madrid wouldn’t take to Bale, and Madrid fans aren’t even half as bad as Barca fans, they want extreme technicians, they want Ronaldinho, they want Modric, they want Brazilian Ronaldo, Guys who control games and ooze almost a show coating quality. Bale was direct and his whole super power was his pace, add a wand of a left foot to that and you get a very very dangerous man, he was never going to be out there and influencing games with large amount of possession and flicks and unbelievable first touches, he was a match winner because he was a world class finisher with pace that wasn’t normal. Without that pace we now see the abilities that the Spanish knew he didn’t possess are completely exposed, take away his pace it’s over.
Pirlo, Modric, Messi, Ronaldo, ibra, Del Piero, lewandowski all have the ability to play on without their pace, Bale doesn’t.
