There are bad points and good points in football, and this one definitely felt like an excellent one for Oxford United. The U’s had to dig deep, and they battled and scrapped to a valuable point at Carrow Road. It finished Norwich City 1-1 Oxford United. Please enjoy my review of this Sky Bet Championship game.

OUFC have been poor away from home in the EFL Championship so I was not expecting much against a Norwich City side that are free scoring at home and still have aspirations of getting into the playoffs. It was another shocking start for the Yellows too as Norwich scored an early goal through the in form Josh Sargent. But, Oxford Utd didn’t cave and they fought back with a rare goal from Mark Harris. The Canaries certainly were the dominant side and Jammie Cumming made an exceptional save at the end, but Oxford defending resiliently and kept NCFC at bay. The defensive efforts from United show everyone that they are still very much battling hard to keep their place in the EFL Championship. This was a big point in the battle to avoid Championship Relegation.

  1. That felt like a big point for me. Nice to move off 38 points. Seems like we have been on that for weeks. I was happy with the way the lads dug deep and battled hard for that point. Norwich fans, I am sure you are frustrated by it, but would be interested to know your thoughts too. COYY #OUFC πŸ‚ #NCFC 🟑🟒

  2. Valuable point, and a feeling that the players were battling for each other in a fully committed way. Brannagan rightly named m.o.t.m. (it's easy to take his great contributions for granted) but I agree with you about Matos, great energy box-to-box.

  3. The biggest frustration for me was the follow up clearance. So often we'd clear the box, get the ball on the edge of our box, then lose it; either a sloppy pass, or dallying and getting tackled.
But such an important point, a really dogged performance with a touch more threat than other recent matches.
Hopefully Nelson can come into that backline and we can move Brown to left back. Placheta tried his hardest, but he's not a wing back!
Usual plaudits for Brannagan, Moore and Brown. Thought Ter Avest had a great game, very little came down our right hand side.
Think there's just enough in this squad to stay up. COYY

  4. Watched the game last night as a neutral. Oxford really dug in for the point. It was well deserved against a good Norwich team. Your players put on a shift. Your defo staying up. PUSB

  5. Much more than just a point.
It puts the brakes on the growing feelings of apprehension, gets the donkey off of Harris’s back and is a blueprint for, hopefully, a few more away points.
There’s still room for improvement though.
A more natural finisher than Romeny would be putting his early chance in the bottom corner & we’re still not creating clear cut chances.
    Hull is now massive.
It should be a good game with both sides targeting 3 points…

  6. The only disappointing part of the performance was the fact your midfield looked like they had lead in their boots until Norwich scored. Oxford then woke up and pressed better. Result was a well earned point. Hope you get a win soon.

  7. Credit to two players who have received plenty of criticism this season. Both Harris and Phillips had really good games today. Phillips has not had a good season, but showed all his experience and commitment at wing back. Sparky has looked lost at times this season, but that was a really good strikers finish for his goal. Can only hope it inspires him going forward.

5-3-2 worked today, but does restrict us going forward. Maybe with more practice, we can work on that

It's hard to judge exactly what is happening at Norwich this season as I can't remember the last time we played the same players two games in a row. Loads of injuries to some of the better players and some unwelcome suspensions for stupid actions on the pitch.

Something is missing in the midfield in too many games and anyone defending deeper will have a great chance of a result – i.e. Derby, Oxfor,d and too many others.

All that said, well done to Oxford and all being well they will stay up

  10. Harris took his goal well. Great throw ins from Vaulkes and ironically Norwich conceded after putting the ball out needlessly under little pressure. Four points from next two games might just be enough to stay up
