Manchester City have their eyes set on Nathan Ake of Bournemouth in another attempt to shore up their defense for the upcoming season. ESPN FC’s Jan Aage Fjortoft and Craig Burley opine on whether or not Ake will be an improvement to what Pep Guardiola already has, as well as on the developing story involving Chelsea’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

  1. Nathan Ake is another Stones ! He is not a leader like Kompany was and that is what City needs a leader in that defence ,a no nonsense player who will get stuck in .

  2. City will sign Ake to be 3rd choice
and Koulibaly to partner Laporte. It's going to be like when they brought Walker, Mendy and Danilo.

  3. Ake doesn't dominate in the air and offer a robust enough presence of that nature in the penalty area. Mendy, despite his size, doesn;t do enough in the air, Walker shows something, but overall we're pretty naff. Rodrigo's good but does everything at his own pace. Ake is pretty quick so has the speed to chase back and tackle the player receiving the over-the-top ball that catches us out so often, so perhaps that's the criteria that makes him a buy for Pep. Not too many alternatives out there either. It's a meh signing and Stones is better but needs some coaching help.

  4. I hate when people say that we don’t need more goals when a big problem we had was scoring in those tight games. Or those games where we have 7 chances in the opposition box, only score one and concede two to lose. If we could put away just 30% more of the chances we create we would have been much more comfortable this season. Moreover, we will definitely strengthen at LB (probably CB) and GK, I don’t see why people think we won’t

  5. I don't get how Guardiola figured John Stones isn't good enough to play centre back for City. For me that's a managerial error. Stones is a very solid central defender, although he did start out as right back I believe.

  6. Pretty bold prediction, but I think Kai might end up going back to Germany or somewhere else in a few years if Chelsea keep spending tons of money where they don't actually need to.
