Arsenal trained at their base near London on Monday before travelling to the Netherlands to face PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
The Champions League has become the last realistic chance for Mikel Arteta’s side to win a trophy this season, after a costly home loss to West Ham United and draw at Nottingham Forest have seen Arsenal slip thirteen points behind leaders Liverpool in the English Premier League title race.
The north London side are suffering a slew of injuries in attack, with midfielder Mikel Merino being required to play in a false nine position in those last two league games, where Arsenal have failed to score.
Winger Bukayo Saka isn’t expected to be back from a long-term thigh injury until later this month, while forwards Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are out until next season.
PSV host the Gunners having knocked out Juventus in last month’s play-off round, overturning a 2-1 defeat in Turin with a 3-1 victory in Eindhoven after extra time.
Arsenal avoided the play-offs by finishing the new league phase of the competition in third spot in January.
They have faced PSV in competitive action on 10 occasions, and will now have done so in each of the past three seasons.
Last season they brushed aside Peter Bosz’s side 4-0 at home in the group phase, before drawing 1-1 at the Philips Stadion.
