Liverpool’s Unused substitutes went for a short exercise at the Etihad immediately after the Liverpool vs Manchester City game ended. Liverpool fans were still at the away end when their Number 9 Darwin Nunez came over towards them as he prepared for the exercises. The fans clapped for him and sang his name and Darwin responded by clapping back, showing them the thumbs up and tapping the Liverpool badge on his chest. This was a show of solidarity and support for the striker who came under criticism for his performance in Liverpool’s last game against Aston Villa. Head coach Arne Slot decided to play without a striker for the clash at the Etihad instead playing two number 10s in Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai who would take turns in occupying the false number 9 role. The tactics worked as both were heavily involved in Liverpool’s best moments in the game with and without the ball.
