After a lengthy independent report on the Summer Olympic drone-spying scandal, Canada Soccer says women’s head coach Bev Priestman, assistant coach Jasmine Mander and analyst Joey Lombardi will not be back with the organization.  It found the “practice of conducting surreptitious surveillance of opponents” predated this summer’s Paris Olympics. Former coach John Herdman has yet to give evidence. (Nov. 12, 2024 / The Canadian Press)

  1. Quote from today's Star opinion article:
"The true cardinal sin here was that the women’s national soccer team staff was stone-dumb enough, YOLO-reckless enough, have-you-ever-read-a-newspaper ignorant enough, to launch a drone not once but twice in a country that was on high alert for drone attacks during these Olympics, to the point where it was a crime."
The country has been in a what-were-they-thinking mode ever since. They would go to an authoritarian country and deface the dictator's pictures and wonder "what's the problem?"

  2. It’s laughable. What on earth kind of advantage are you getting from recording a training session at a tournament you’re already at? No one is running through tactical positioning or formation at training while you’re already at the tournament. No major changes are being made that you wouldn’t be able to get by watching game film leading up to when you’re playing them. It’s just the most asinine thing to do to try and gain an advantage.
