Gabriel Martinelli stepped up in a wonderful performance against Dinamo Zargreb to put Arsenal in a great UCL position. In this video, we analyse why this was a very different game for him and how it can be the main catalyst for the Arsenal attack in the time of need.

  1. Martinelli could be used as a centre forward fir quick counter-attacks with Havertz as shadow striker who is better at link play and holding the ball.

Poor lad was a sacrificial pony. He was used mostly as left back covering inverted left/full-backs and the loss of possession in forward positions had a higher chance for a fast break. An example is Mo Salah goal during 2-2 draw. There wasn't much protection for him on left compared to Saka and Odegard on the right. With the evolution of Lweis-Skelly in recent times, now the right defensive output is weak – hence I believe Sterling is asked to play a safe game.

  2. I do think this was a significant game, because it showed that Arteta is a addressing a fundamental flaw in our central attacking build up pattern and that Martinelli can be coached and adapt.

  3. Martinelli seems to get into the action much more when he plays with Zinny as left back, I think that relationship has been starting to develop with Califiori too, but they have ha a very interrupted start.

  4. Martinelli most times create a goal scoring opportunity with a pass/cross..but havertz most times misses it….(i can give you multiple examples..even from games in the very BEGINNING of the season)

  5. I think the biggest problem we have is a lack of creativity against teams playing low block defence. We need a striker who is a real threat up front who causes defender restlessness and two pacey wingers who can take defenders on 1v1,who can go past them and create scoring opportunities from the tightest of spaces. And a clinical finisher as well who can score from any angle the comes from

  6. If I was Arsenal manager, I'd put Martinelli and Havertz as a striker duo with Havertz becoming more of a Bergkamp-esque striker and Martinelli being more of a quick striker.

  7. I think our biggest problem recently has been that we have been attacking with an inverted fullback all the time. This has resulted in opponents keeping the box very tight by allowing a 1v1 on the wing and everyone else clogging up the box. In fact, it was the same plan we often used against Man Shitty. We need to stretch the game more by having more conventional overlaps. (This also allows the wingers to get into the box from time to time.) We saw how they were forced to have a defender dragged out. This creates the space in the box that we need.

The next thing is to get our attacking game more vertical. This means that we should try to get our DM(s) into a shooting position more often. Defenders need to keep an eye on this threat, which creates more space. Last but not least, we need to see more deep runs from our attackers. I thought Havertz did well yesterday. He and Jorginho always find each other. We need to encourage that to make the game more vertical. Once we do that. We have enough quality to score goals.

But we need some changes. The Villa game was proof of that.

  8. Dude, he performed well this match just because we were against lower quality opponent. In fact, he should learn from Saka how to be more creativity when he has the ball, not only dribble down to flank.

  9. This guy, you must be really designed to annoy. Martinelli is a flop and has been since day one. The only reason he played well is because the whole team played well and opponents were afraid of us. Martinelli does not play for Arsenal, Arsenal plays for Martinelli. I bet Arsenal would had played better with one man down (Martinelli absent). That guy would not make my Sunday league team. For some reason dull brained fans think that guy is good because he is on TV, He does not have a brain in his head.
