New Tunisia head coach Nabil Maaloul held his first press conference on Saturday (February 23rd) since being appointed a week ago.

“I am optimistic by nature. It’s true we have been below par in the last year. We will try and get over our early exit from the CAN. A big match is waiting for us against Sierra Leone, who held us to a draw in October in Monastir and nearly beat us then. I have much faith in my players. I know they understand me and understand the style I like to play. True we don’t have enough time to work the way we want but the most important thing in the next games is the win then the style comes afterwards.”

“I will keep seventy per cent of the current squad because they are our best players and call up some players who play abroad like Yassin Mikari, Karim Haggui and (Jamel) Saihi who was injured. These players could be in the squad for the next training camp”

“I had my first meeting with my coaching team. We will start officially on Monday. Today we had the presentation of the coaching team but I have already started working for eight days now speaking to the players.”

“What’s required is hard work, discipline and dedication to the national team. We have to think of what’s good for the country and the national team and for the good of the Tunisian people who have waited for a long time for a moment of joy. This is what we have to think about. We want discipline, which has been lacking in recent years.”
