  1. Sorry but that doesn't quite add up. He goes for the header but then completely loses neck rigidity for his head to smack into the grass? I can't understand why his head would go from craned to the left to make the header to dropping to his right side and therefore into the turf. His right arm should've propped him up as his diving header landed him on the turf but his arm appears to give out under him completely!

  2. You can see the hard bounce off the ground… and that mouth movement, Iololol… I do the exact same thing, all the time, when I am working into getting concentrated on something… then I change to another movement (all auto, obviously).

  3. Trying to normalise so many collapsing in sports these days. You had to take the shots to travel remember? There was no collision in the field of play!! The new normal!!!

  4. I'm a retired GP. On our WhatsApp group we had also some footage from the opposite side which suggested as one of the comments says that he was in the process of losing consciousness before his head hit the ground.I am very surprised that falling onto damp turf could cause a significant head injury. It's not concrete!! He goes to head the ball with a huge rotational force on the neck that caused this to happen. Also the substitute was not a head injury substitute which suggested this wasn't called as a head injury. I think the Drs comments way too simplistic here..I might be completely wrong but could this have been caused by an acute carotid sinus injury due to the rotational force??

  5. This is the second time this season Betancur has been knocked unconscious on the pitch. In August he was knocked out by a clash of heads. Two concussions in 5 months is not good

  6. Can you do a video on Tom Lockyer please 🙂 – This one seems to fall into the category of on-field accident, however there are much better cases that could be talked about.

  7. Context for why his teammate pulls on him initially. The single biggest risk to a players life in soccer is having their tongue obstruct the airway. The risk of spinal damage is much lower than it is in sports like hockey and American football. FIFA has posters detailing what to do if a player is unconscious from contact as well as cardiac collapse's all over the place. Professional players are all trained and instructed to do what the teammate did in that situation. The first player there will perform this check on the injured players breathing and to make sure his airway is not obstructed.

Players having documented situations where a teammate cleared their airway by adjusting the injured players chin happens multiple times per year at the highest level of the sport. The protocol is taken just as seriously as a player having a cardiac event and something medical professionals have decided is worth the risks associated with moving somebody.

  8. You're wrong, it was not treated as a concussion injury – in English football, if a player goes off with concussion it means that particular substitution does not count towards the 5 that they have available to make for the match. In this instance, if concussion was the concern, this is what would have happened. But after 9 minutes of treatment the Spurs medics did not report this as concussion, and the substitution DID count towards their allotted 5 available, meaning they only had 4 left to make after Bentancur went off.

  9. Happy that Lolo is back home and doing fine. yet another scare for us fans….we kind of need a little break from all of these injuries! Thank you Brian, new subscriber!
