Did Harry Maguire have a redeeming tournament? Good enough to be considered in the team of the tournament?

  1. Sky and British media in general are a disgrce around the Maguire situation, desperate to protect another whiter than white player by overhyping him. He was fine at best and ultimately still got caught out at times against nothing opposition

  2. Players like Maguire get props because this country has a massive loser complex and almost enjoys losing so long as they hve something to cling on to

  3. Spencer was correct in saying you need to come into this with a clean perspective, but his conclusion gets it backwards. Forgetting who he is and what he usually offers, you'd say Maguire had an average tournament. It's only when taking into account Maguire's glaring weaknesses and chronic lack of form that he looks great because he massively outperformed the expectations of him going into this tournament.

  4. Livakovic
    Hakimi Romero Gvardiol Tagliafico
    Macallister Amrabat Griezemann
    Messi Alvarez Mbappe

    Honourable mentions:
    Giroud
    Tchoumeni
    Enzo
    Bellingham
    Emi Martinez

  5. Rory do me a favour and look at both of Frances goals, for me the player at fault for both was Jordan Henderson. Tchameni’s goal, we had 8 men inside the box while griezmann and tchameni waited patiently on the edge. Jordan Henderson should’ve been there to prevent the shot. And for the second goal not sure if it was the wingers fault or Henderson’s but no one got out to griezmann quick enough, again. Who then puts a perfect ball for giroud

  6. Don’t dislike Maguire. Think he’s treated poorly by fans and pundits. However, lost Taremi for his first, and a momentary lapse in concentration to let Giroud get across him. He’s not bad, but he isn’t good enough

  7. Maguire was at fault for a goal against Iran AND France. But still he looks a million dollars against Luton level talent (no offence to Luton, just popped to my head)

  8. The problem is that Maguire has set his bar so low at club level, if he has a mediocre performance, everyone thinks he’s playing well, when all he did against easy opposition, was do the bare minimum of what should be expected of him.
Compare him to Gvardiol in the World Cup. Gvardiol had a standout tournament because he played unbelievably well most games. Maguire wasn’t even close to as good as Gvardiol, but because his bar is so low, everyone is ringing his praises.

  9. I expected England to get eliminated because of a own goal of Maguire. Despite the referees decision, it was clearly Maguire who touched the ball inside the net in the second french goal. So I wasn't disappointed.

  10. Totally agree with Rory here sick of harry maguire being praised for average performances against average teams maguire must have friends in high places in the media because he’s a wolves level player at best

  11. Maguire isn't good enough to be the Ferdinand type ball playing centre back.
He tries to bring the ball out but is so stiff and rigid looking and slow it's silly.
It's like watching Bambi on ice when caught on the ball

  12. You are correct Rory. His biggest job was to inhibit the aerial threat of Giroud. And he failed. Was as good as he needed to be in every other game though.

  13. Sorry, but why is Maguire always getting picked for team of tournament for the 2022 WC? Like is it because he didn't shit the bed like he does at Man Utd and people have realised he isn't completely useless or did no other centrebacks have an above average tournament?

  14. England is the only place where people believe Maguire is good. He is not. But on the behalf of the rest of the world. Please keep him in the English squad.
