Since the news broke that Barcelona are considering signing Thomas Partey on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, I've read interesting commentaries on the possible move.
I think it's not a good time for a player like Thomas Partey to consider Barcelona. He's a great player, no doubt, but the kind of wind blowing at the club now makes me believe Partey won't survive.
Here's why. Barcelona are rebuilding and the focus has shifted from buying to promoting La Masia graduates. Partey is versatile, he can play as a DM, CM, AM, in fact all the midfield positions but look at this.
One department that's choked at Barcelona is their midfield, and with what Casado, Bernal, Fermin has shown, a new set of La Masia prodigies will be promoted next summer.
Now, Gavi is fit, Pedri is playing at his best, there's Olmo, Bernal will return from injury in summer 2025, there's De Jong who'll never leave, Pablo Torre etc. All these players are core of the next project except FDJ. It sends a clear message, Partey will be a substitute/backup if he joins.
No matter how Partey plays at Barcelona, he'll be pushed aside for a La Masia product just like Gundugan was shipped for Casado and Bernal.
Barça's finances are poor which means less salary if he decides to join plus trophies are not guaranteed.
If I am Partey, I'd fancy a move to Saudi Arabia than Barcelona.
