  1. Should have never got such a big job for a below mediocre manager like him. What a waste of 8 years, achieved NOTHING

  2. Yes he has come closer than any other manager to winning a trophy, but, he has had a far better squad of players than any other manager, and he has left better players at home.

  3. If I look at the big picture of Gareth Southgate's reign, he has taken England to a higher level, and I commend him for that. In the 2018 WC he exceeded expectations by taking England to a SF. However, in that game he handed the initiative to Croatia, and lost the game. If he had learnt from that and not repeated the same mistake in Euro 2020(1), England would finally have won a tournament, that for me was the big, missed opportunity. They may have gone into WC 2022 and Euro 2024 with a different mindset, really believing that they can win tournaments. Instead, they adopted a cautious approach and when they came up against quality opposition, they succumbed. Spain 2024 are a better team than Italy 2020(1), they strolled to the final, while England scrapped and scraped their way there.

  4. In 2021 he put the team in defense mode to hold the 1-0 score from 2'
In 2024 he equalises in 73' and again closes the team in defense while facing the best attacking team in the tournament.
    Great coach ‼️

  5. He won't be missed. He kept choosing favourites who were either out of form or having been inconsistent for their clubs for most of the season over other hard-working players who should have been given an opportunity to play for England.

Two finals in 3 years and finishing runner up is one thing, but playing defensive football and making late subs and disrespecting the young players is what cost him his job, Southgate along with Steve Holland are Specialists in Failure. Southgate speaks well, as a player he was decent, but as a manager he is atrocious and he will never ever get another job again.

  6. When you read the media they are calling this man a failure because he never won the World Cup or the euros.

Why do England think they have the god given right to win every tournament they play in.

    What arrogance these people have.

England 1966 that is it and even that was at home with a dodgy referee in the final.

You call the Germans arrogant well they must have been taught by you lot.

  7. His record before becoming the manager should have kept him far away from the job but the FA like woke yes men. 1 manager job 1 relegation.

  8. Can't stand listening to all these sycophants saying about his "successes", 2 finals and a semi-final. The fact is that any above average manager with the world class talent available to him would have probably won 3 trophies. So NO, Southgate was not that good. Sorry.

  9. The bloke is a disgrace!!
England have looked utterly clueless and disjointed while under him.
He's been blessed with the best England players probably ever! And just relied on individual brilliance to scrape through to cover his tactical inabilities.
Look at his club track record for God's sake. It's not rocket science this.

  10. He did a great job and he should get a knight hood because look at other managers have struggled but he excelled. Also let’s remember that he did not have a suitable replacement for Kalvin Philips

  11. To the ex best England manager we had since 1966 no one has bin better from all England fans we owe you a thank you that just doesn't do you justice you gave England there England team back and no one will have any idea the void that Gareth Southgate England manager will leave it'll be a very long time now before we see I the likes of these times again for England football hope he comes to utd

  12. The part of this narrative I keep hearing that is conveniently left out is that the "improvement" is only on paper, in terms of the story it is the same old story, we get beat by the first decent team we face. How is struggling past Columbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Denmark etc and losing to Cech Republic, Spain and France an improvement? In these tournaments we have had 1 good win against the Germans who let's face it where not an amazing Germany team and a win against a bang average Netherlands side, those where our best wins. Where is the improvement? same old story, going out in the first tough match up. If anything it is a regression given the quality of football we played.

  13. I'd tear my hair out if I had any left, everybody knows Southgate got us closer to a trophy than any other manager in recent history, the whole point is, we know we should have won at least one of them, Euro 2020. The criticism is only personal in as much as, we don't blame the players, we blame him because we saw he was incapable of changing the flow of a game when the opposing manager had made changes to get his team in control.

  14. Gareth if your somehow reading this I want you to know something. There are people out there worth ignoring but the quiet ones believe in you. I watched you miss that penalty and I went in to school the next day, kids were livid but after all these years there is opportunity for redemption. Don't believe the hype and don't give up on that. Thank you for improving England.
