MAJOR KONATE INJURY UPDATE | Liverpool press conference review

Arne Slot held a press conference on Thursday evening to preview Liverpool’s upcoming trip to West Ham United.

And Reds reporter David Lynch was there to see what the Dutchman had to say ahead of yet another festive fixture.

Slot provided updates on the fitness of Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley, and revealed how close Diogo Jota is to starting.

He also spoke about his plans for Dominik Szoboszlai being foiled on Boxing Day and how contract talks with Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are progressing.

  1. David I'm not expecting you to reply to this …but guessing your surely thinking it ….fernandes Red yesterday was actually softer tackle than either Fulham challenges on us last week …does Pgmol and their use of VAR worry you more than opposition teams in trying to win the league

  2. The best compliment you can give to this Liverpool squad is, when big players are out, we are not really missing them. When Allison was out, Kellegher stepped in seamlessly, When Trent was injured, Connor came in. When Konate was injured, we thought we would miss him a lot, but Gomez has stepped up and now probably close to playing the best form of his career again. And then when Jota was out, Gakpo has been playing great and same with Diaz.

Meanwhile, for City, they had Rodri out and their whole team went downhill and a similar thing when Odegard was injured for Arsenal, they struggled a lot.

  3. For all liverpool fans who are thinking about westham run of form of 4 games unbeaten and is concern…think about what westham fans are thinking..facing a liverpool side going 23 games unbeaten..if liverpool fans analyze player for player.. no team including arsernal has more weapons than liverpool so liverpool fans should just relax and know that this year the title is ours…champion league is not so clear cut not because liverpool is not the best team in Europe but simple fact that we can have an off day while the opponent have their best day..

  4. The Gomez yellow card was soft as well, almost a non-contact sport now. The ref bought a few fouls, but at least was consistent. However suspensions don't really matter much now anyway as its such a squad game, I would rather see the sin bin system introduced to serve as a more effective punishment and stop professional fouls for being committed so often.

  5. Please tell me we don't have that mancunian Anthony Taylor refereeing Liverpool match with west ham. He despises us. Last year denied gapko a goal versus west Ham by blowing his whistle as gapko was about to put in an empty net. Worse still Darren England on var. Refs and var seem to have an agenda against Liverpool. Our opponents get frees much easier. Taylor n England are a scary combination. We need to perform as we will get No favours here Sunday.

  6. David, you referred to our lead as 'humungous', but fact is we have previously blown bigger leads. In 2018-19 we had a 10 point lead at the turn of the year but still lost it by a point to City. Of course, we have also lost out on other titles from leading on NYD. In 2020-21 we had a 4 point lead at the turn of the year, and were flying, but then had injuries (par to our CBs of course) and the wheels fell off – we fell as far as 8th, before recovering to clinch 4th spot on the final day. If we go further back, in '96 we were 5 pts clear in Jan but ended up 4th, and in 2013 we were 4 pts clear on NYD but ended up 2nd to Utd.
I'm not putting these reminders out there to be awkward, and obviously don't enjoy thinking about them again. But, they are rock solid reminders that we have a long way to go, and things outside of our control – par injuries to key players, could still easily derail us. So we have to make sure we get as many points in the bag as we can whilst we have both form and fitness. So, Slot is 100% correct to keep saying 'game by game …'

  7. Id rather dom misses westham now than one of the games later. Konate coming back is massive, with trent talking to other clubs in a few days bradley might be needed if his head gets turned

  8. Mr Lynch, thank you for your great work.!

Vinegar removes fog, mate. I know it sounds weird, but as you might know it also removes the smell of cigarettes. 🤝 They can have open buckets containing half a litre vinegar each on the pitch one hour before the match and it’ll be all cleared up. 💪 And if the club wants to thank my later they are welcome to invite me to Anfield anytime 😂 Wish you the best for 2025, may we end the season with some major trophies 🙏 YNWA
