i'll try this for sure
💪
Never have I thought of catching a ball with this technique. I guess it's because in Italy, where I come from, goalkeeping is still pretty pragmatic, yet the Danish Catch looks like it's much more efficient than a regular catch when done right. Definitely going to try it out
This is amazing😍
I'm gonna practice this one
i feel like it's a bit risky, the ball could slip away from one side if you don't do it correctly, on the other hand with the traditional catch if you lose it can only go forward.
Brilliant! Gonna work on this technique
Back when I was 14, I was playing soccer kickabouts during PE in school and I was the designated goalkeeper. I was attempting to catch a shot using the W catch in one of the routine saves, but I think I may have curled the ring and index fingers of both hands a little bit forward and the ball ended up whacking the tips of those fingers, and my fingers were in excruciating pain for a good 2-3 weeks. I think my fingers went crooked ever since then.
Had I known about the Danish Catch back then, I think I could have saved my fingers from getting disjointed. While I no longer play goalkeeper regularly anymore, I would definitely recommend this technique to my goalkeeper team-mates.
Need to try this!
What a great guide! I will try this out asap
What's the pros and cons of this technique?

Wait, this isn't the standard technique? I usually did this myself. Not sure if I "thought of it myself" or if someone taught me but it's just so much more reliable! (Netherlands btw)
Great tutorial thank you.
Chest paining 😨
Don’t it hurt the chest if it’s a hard shot?
This seems risky because it is difficult to absorb the shock with a hard surface like your chest which has low range of movement. There is a much higher likelihood that you will inadvertently deflect the ball and have it bounce away from you using this technique.
From a physics standpoint, it seems advisable to cushion the ball with a standard hand catch where you can use the muscles and movement range in your fingers, hands, forearms, elbows, and shoulders to each adjust for maximum shock absorption. As you absorb the ball into your hands, you close your arms around it, similar to what you start with in your video, where you can slightly further absorb shock with chest and back movement.
Using the technique in your video you can literally only absorb shock using the last pivot point mentioned above, your back and chest (the least effective of all but fingers). That will never be as soft of a catch and the ball will be much more likely to bounce out and away.
I'm glad that you and Kasper use this technique effectively but it is simply not advisable from a sports science perspective.
Dont u get hurt in the chest because of the speedy ball?
This is so cool!
Beautiful
Seems to me this is an excellent technique for when the ball is in that middle ground between scoop and W. Worth learning if you're young enough. 🙂
Genius
Love this <3
Should this technique replaced the w catch
I am from Africa, keepers have been using this technique for decades
what if it's wet ? I would pat it down or back the gloves to take it , seems risky to me
I don't have mental enough to do this😂
In Bulgaria we have been always teached the Danish catch
Thanks !
Outstanding idea
Need to try it next training 😁
I get it…I saw this somewhere and thought surely this didn't work and was a gimmick. So I'll buy it could be something worth training at a younger age to do…
But why? What is the real advantage of not using your hands (body behind you just as shown)? I have always been a keeper but don't even think I've actually thought about getting hit in the face with a shot before (yes it's happened of course) but it's so instinctual to get my hands on anything first. I just see myself ten years ago letting a hard shot go through my hands only to spin up and hit me square in the face lol
I just don't understand why you wouldn't use your hands if you could. I think if you could explain why a bit better, I might listen.
The little intricacies in GK technique that I've noticed have changed in my lifetime have been interesting and sensical but I'm still baffled
Danish Catch? Amazing vídeo…but…this Catch was being done in the 90's by Belgium School of Goalkeeping…
One of the pioneers was Jean Nicolay… Goalkeeper Coach then of Michel Preud'homme.
In the 90's he played in Benfica and already did this…
I'm a Goalkeeper and since the 90's I do this Catch…and it can also being done another type of movements and Balls. Check the vídeo Preud'homme "Le Saint" 🙏🏻 Greetings
i practice it and i felt so many breathtaking moment…
Thanks
came from verif football, you explained this very well
Verif football got u a new subscriber, great video and explication!
I just moved from field to keeper at 40+ years of age and I could not figure out how to handle chest high shots. My first instinct is to wrap them in with one arm on top and one on bottom and that works ok but this requires less time. Going to train this and see how it feels, thank you.
