I think very few people would be bothered if Ferreira joins on a TAM deal. As mentioned, the idea that our off-season upgrades to our attack would be Jesus Ferreira and not much else is what gives that sinking feeling that the Sounders will continue to fall behind.
My perspective on last season is the Sounders got as far as they did because Schmetzer continues to be a genius (one the league refuses to acknowledge, but that's another story.) He yet again pulled together misfit pieces and got a team that has a talent level significantly below the competition to the cusp of several trophies.
The Sounders are in ludicrously high profile competitions next year. They can't be a duct tape and baling wire team and expect Schmetzer to figure out how to compete in all of them.
Jesus Ferreira has scored 5 goals in the 2024 MLS season. PERIOD.
My initial reaction was doom and gloom because I think the FO has lost a bit of goodwill with the fans after the past couple transfer windows. When I first heard the reports of this, I really thought it was going to be THE deal, but hearing that they would be potentially bringing in Ferreira on a TAM deal and part of Arriola's contract would be picked up by FC Dallas, I think these moves are honestly genius.
At this point, my hope is actually that they wait until the summer to use that other DP slot they would still have open. I think with the news today that they're not negotiating with JP, and the probability that Obed is gone in the summer, we'll be short on center mids. I know it was talked about in the stream, but I would NOT be surprised if either Leyva or Atencio are sent to FC Dallas in these deals.
But the beauty of bringing in Ferreira is that he is a very flexible player, which allows the sounders to go out and get the best player available in the summer window after seeing how the team is gelling, rather than going into the summer needing to look at one specific position. If Rusnak and Ferreira as the 10/9 are balling, go pick up an elite number 8. If goals are still hard to come by, go pick up an elite 9/10, drop Rusnak back to the 8 with Cristian, and have Ferreira fill in the other spot. There are also the options of Morris slotting into the wing or the 9, and PDLV playing the wing or the 10. I think these moves give the Sounders a ton of flexibility to make a flashy DP signing in the summer window when more players are available, and gives the Sounders a half season to evaluate which position is most needed.
Ferreira's a good player on a poor team. He has a ton of potential, and I think coach Schmetzer can unlock him. He and Morris could do some real damage up top, because he is smart and unselfish. Smart = goals (be aggressive and take shots); Unselfish = assists (knows how to get open and can play a deft killer pass for Jordan to smash home). Now, Paul Arriola is a player I've always appreciated. He has a dogged, workman-like mentality. Goes after loose balls; not afraid to get aggressive. As a defensive player he actually brings a lot of offensive mentality. His defensive skill might not be to the same level as Yeimar and Ragen, so the question is where does he fit in the lineup? I see him as a potential successor to J. Paulo as a defensive midfielder alongside Vargas or Roldan. I think he fits better in a 4-2-3-1, but could be more involved in offense in a 3-5-2. 3 at back would be Yeimar, Ragen and Nouhou; the 5 would be Arriola, C. Roldan, Vargas, Rusnak, De La Vega, with Morris and Ferreira at top. This lineup would be more aggressive offensively, but missing the defensive stability of four at the back with Alex Roldan at right wingback. Switching from a 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2 on substitution would be easy though, and something that could be done to hold onto an early lead.
I think Sounders fans will be pleasantly surprise when this team finally comes together. Trust me, he will make this team much better, Morris should have 5 more goals with Ferreira. He is so much better than you guys are giving him credit for. Keep in mind… ****He will be the best player on roster once transferred****. He played for a horrible team. Keep that in mind.
Keep in mind after the Gold Cup and hat trick, he was slated for Europe to play, however injuries didn't allow this.. This is not a De La Vega pickup. He is light years more advance that De La Vega.
Ferreira on a TAM deal, yes!
Arriola though…can't stand the guy's playing style. He's Dempsey with 3x the gamesmanship and 1/10 of the skill. Is FCD requiring clubs who want Ferreira to take him as a throw-in?
Underrated at MLS level because of online USMNT fans. He will likely be the best attacker on the team if this goes through. Issue is, you probably don't want Ferreira being your best player if you want to be a true contender. But as long as he's not a DP, we should be able to add someone. This would give us more leeway to have that "someone" arrive in the summer, if that's what works best for us. But for CCC and CWC, I'd obviously rather have us add an elite DP attacker in the winter.
I guess he is the MLS lifer 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Pirates of the Caribbean is absolutely wild
Seriously not a good signing. For how big of a club Sounders are we should be signing a Moise Kean level striker
