MLS Cup Playoffs | LA Galaxy | Seattle Sounders

Hey, soccer fans! This is Nick with a Glass House Soccer Short.

This weekend was the MLS Cup conference finals, and we saw Red Bulls defeat Orlando City and the LA Galaxy defeat the Seattle Sounders, setting up an MLS Cup between two of the league’s original franchises. However, the story this morning is around Galaxy’s star player Riqui Puig. The midfield tore his ACL in the game and is out for the Cup final. It is suspected that his ACL tore in the 61’ after being tackled by Seattle’s Christian Roldan – and I do mean tackled. If you watch the replay, Roldan’s intent was to clear out Puig and prevent a counter-attack. The referee issued a yellow card without hesitation, which was probably the right call – but I can understand why Galaxy fans wanted more. Amazingly, Puig played the rest of the match, even collecting the game-winning assist.

Congrats to the Galaxy, and best of luck to them in the final. But can they do it without their star playmaker?
