I think we need a young, up and coming manager next as thats the trend for success in the efl at the moment. Someone who's been either within the football system for a while or been under the wing of a great manager like a Carrick, Mckenna, Buckingham, Rohl, Martin, Thomas Frank, Will Still or, dare I say it, John Mousinho (us Pompey fans wouldn't let him go very easily). Personally, I'm a little sceptical of foreign managers as we don't need another Capello (who couldn't speak English when he came in). There's no point saying big name managers like Klopp or Guardiola because they'd never move. Same for Howe but it's a little more likely. I think what a lot of fans aren't taking into consideration is the backroom staff as well. They need to be top notch and on the same wavelength as the manager I'm order to get results.
