In the 2024 Copa América, Uruguay defeated the USA 1-0, marking the first time the USMNT has been eliminated in the group stage in 20 home tournaments. This result has significant implications for the state of US Soccer, raising questions about the team’s future direction. The USMNT’s elimination after the 1-0 loss to Uruguay has sparked a debate on whether Berhalter is the root of the problem and what he got wrong in this match. Additionally, there is a discussion on the type of manager that this USMNT squad needs moving forward.

  1. Look, straight forward, Mexico and US are the best of Concacaf, and the gap has closed on the top of the table and the middle teams. Mex and US have the best resources to become elite, but the problem is that you have been blinded by results. Look at games in Copa de Oro. There has been miracles where both teams have been losing and they end up wining or with more players on the field or a PK. The only way to measure yourselfs is to forget about filling up stadiums, so you can measure how the teams are really performing. You get fooled by the help and when big events like World Cup you end crashing up on a wall.

  2. 6:23 what is up with this delusion that the US Is good lol? Because they beat a trash squad of the worst Mexican players in about 40 years means that now the US is up there with Uruguay?

  3. "Golden generation"? lmao Americans and american media really need to stop with that nonsense. A golden generation is a team that actually does something. You keep putting your team on a pedestal. That needs to stop

  4. 7:05 stifled Uruguay? Do these lot watch football? Do they know who Uruguay is historically? Grinding is written in the core of Uruguayan footballing DNA. US didn't stifle Uruguay. Uruguay let you think so.

  5. Damn, these guys didn’t hold back with that was a scathing indictment of a bum-holder’s incompetence and the overrated US roster who has none of the grit aggression and attitude of past US teams that forced their ways to wins against superior talented nations.

  6. Fire the coach and tell pulisic to grow up. Whining about a referee instead of admitting you had ZERO chance of winning because of the players as well. You didn't nor are you good enough to win on the international level. At best, the players from the Usmnt are bench riders on actual good European teams.

  7. Uruguay: 3 million people. They have less population than the metro area of Porto Alegre, the capital of the southernmost Brazilian state, that borders Uruguay and Argentina.

Uruguay is irritating but you see they give their lives in the field. I am Brazilian but quality by population, Uruguay is incredibly ahead of Brazil.

  8. This is who they are and it's time to stop pretending otherwise. They are not good enough to regularly beat top 15 teams. They are a medium fish in a very very small pond (Concacaf). There is one world class player, mind you he is barely world class, on their roster and a whole lot of players who struggle to get minutes on relegation-worthy EPL teams and lesser leagues. Weah – over-rated, Gio – over-rated, Mussah – over-rated, McKinney – over-rated, Dest, Adams, Richards, on and on. Turner once was a very good goalie but just isn't anymore. These boys have not lived up to the hype and I don't care if Pep, Klopp or Sir Alex Ferguson managed this team….they are not good enough!

  9. Crocker comes from a relegated club from a country that has never beat us. Fire Betty Crocker. Wrong hire and taking our country down. Poor hire. @US Soccer. @Volkswagen. @Nike. @Truly.

  10. You guys talked to much trash 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  11. A lot of talking about symptoms, not root cause. How can a country like the US, with 10x the population of most competitors, and 100x the $ resources, not compete at the same level? As a Canadian I see that the Conmebol teams play with more motivation, and a passion; and a different style that confounds us unless we play the same "shithousery" style. Maybe they are motivated by their societal situation? Canada, and to a lesser extent Mexico, are similar societies, yet they produce equivalent players. I DO NOT want to get into a debate of how Canada fared vs.the US, we were lucky to grind our way through (thesecommentators said 'they ain't efficient' lol). The coach, and the hosting in the US, and everything else is a red herring. I think the fault is with US Soccer not producing better players from your system, and a better team environment. Bandaids at the team level won't be enough, what I learned working with a sport for a province of 17 million people is its all about the foundation and identifying athletes.

  12. Here's something we can work on immediately: remind the players that they are being videotaped and to not hit players from the opposing team. How about that? Can we at least get that right? uh? Also, there seems to be a sense of entitlement coming from this team as if they beaten teams like Brazil and Argentina on a consistent basis. – YOU HAVE NOT – play accordingly!

  13. I love that the USSF refuses to accept that 2 term managers don't work for them. They've tried or pushed for it FOUR STRAIGHT TIMES. Arena … Bradley… Klinsmann… 😂😂😂

  14. Usmnt needs a foreign coach we just don’t have a coach of the caliber needed to win international games. We also need someone with the cajones to keep discipline in the team.

  15. 1:24 So the standard of success is that the US gets to a Semi-final in the World Cup!? Really!? That would be the measurement for us for a successful tournament. Remember that time you and the other American announcers got utterly humbled by Thierry Henry, Richard’s and Carragher on CBS about the lack of respect from the British toward American Coaches and players!? Did you not take from that some degree of wisdom or lesson learned that respect is earned. Results and productivity demand being taken seriously. Jesse Marsh bombed out of the PL by adding Americans like McKennie and after he gets fired for being shockingly poor, these pundits say that Americans aren’t respected in Europe. To which Henry stated that no European Basketball player like Paul Gasol is just given respect for being in the NBA… you have to earn it. When he played exceptionally well and proved he should be there, they respected him! The second he said this, you all knew what you said was foolish beyond measure.

Between the pundits, the players and the fans, the hopium you are all smoking makes it difficult to root for our national team. McKennie said before this tournament, success is measured by winning and I would consider a successful tournament if we take home the trophy! They strut like champions with no medals. The utter lack of humility is nauseating!!! YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN A SUCCESSFUL SIDE!!! NEVER! And I am tired of hearing about the “golden generation” as if failed players at top clubs means anything to national team success. Robinson and Pulisic are probably the two best players we have regarding what they did for club. People talk about McKennie as though he had a great year. But when you look at his stats, he was among the worst in Serie A, except in assists. His performance was so bad, Motta told him he has no future there. I doubt they will get 15 million for him and they tried to pawn him off to Aston Villa for the Douglas Luis trade/sale and McKennie was demanding more than double what they were willing to pay him. That deal fell through and most likely so will his transfer value! So yeah, the USMNT players are bang on average and they are supposed to make it to the World Cup Semi Finals!?! Just insane to think that!

  16. 6:45 to say the first half was promising wasn’t watching the game with any objectivity. The US never threatened the goal. The xG was .09 meaning an own goal was the only way we were scoring. The xG for the entire game was less than .3 and that came from a foul against the Uruguayan keeper when his arm was stepped on when the he also to retrieve it. Most likely would have been called back (given the ref, who knows). Uruguay didn’t come out to play slow or control the game in the first 20 minutes. Play hard and let the US run through their adrenaline and then control the game. That’s exactly what happened. Holland vs Romania was the exact same game. Horribly outmatched, Holland held the back pretty tight and just let Romania come at them for 20 minutes and then completely took the game over. That was an Uruguayan side who weren’t playing a knock out round and they dominated us!

  17. 7:45 They stifled Uruguay? Really? Uruguay play with a 4-2-3-1. De La Cruz was dropping in between Valverde and Ugarte just to crowd any offense the US might throw at them given how jacked they were for this game. After the 25-30th minute, De la Cruz pushed forward and started opening up opportunity to possess and the US couldn’t handle it. The US lost the ball incessantly and looked like they had no plan, no structure and no understanding to manage Uruguay to possibly get a result. They knew this was a must win game for the US so they were up for it. To say it took a while for Uruguay to get into this game is hilarious. Uruguay played poor the entire game. But so would you trying to get up for a game against a team who lost to Panama haha! I have never seen Araujo play so many long balls out of the back in my life. Xavi would have killed him. They were just forcing the back line of the US back to stretch them out more and open up the Midfield to make room to play for Velverde and team. Uruguay never once looked threatened. The US never really threatened the goal. There was nothing encouraging except for fight… and you know what, everyone else has that too. You need more than fitness and fight. The world has caught up to the fitness standards in speed, strength, agility and endurance. That is no longer near enough.

  18. The solution to your manager problem:
    Niko Kovač
    Vacant since 17.03.2024
Last clubs: VfL Wolfsburg, AS Monaco, FC Bayern München, Eintracht Frankfurt

  19. At dude nexy to the lady: we beat Mexico in a Round of 16 match, not a Quarterfinal. We lost the Quarterfinal to Germany

At Davies: the farthest we’ve gone was semi final 1930, so what you’re asking for is going to the final which I don’t think will happen 😅

  20. What's funny is that the Uruguay game was the best of the three for the US in this group. Uruguay is just far and away the best team we faced. We exited this group when we only beat Bolivia by 2 (we would've had to beat Uruguay by at least 2 in order to advance) and when we found a way to lose to Panama.

The irony of this difficult conversation being held after the team played fairly well, instead of the mountains of mediocrity that preceded it, is not lost on me.

  21. Not really surprising if you’re losing to Panama despite being a goal up. In game management was poor. You were never going to beat Uruguay yet fans are moaning about the goal, yet ignoring they needed to win, but never looked like even scoring. I think there were only three shots on target. This against a team that didn’t even need to win and could even afford to have lost.

  22. I'm brazilian and I follow the American team, I see that this is a process of maturation, shame is your country taking 7-1 at home and to this day this is painful as it was in 2014, about the USMNT playing losing home I don't see it as terrible, but frustrating

  23. That happens when u have regular player (thinking of they are world class players) in top european teams, just because having scholarship in world class clubs does not assure those players are gonna become greatest in ur region, wakey wakey! Now you guys are seeing the reality of sending normal players to top world clubs , now all is business, i like more when players where earning on themselves a place in european clubs than transfer'em just merely businesss, and thats the awful and disgrace truth of realising ur golden generation is just marketing, its better when having home players that gain courage and dedication thou
