  1. Argentina won 1-0 against Peru at home, but I don’t find this victory to be very convincing. Argentina is the reigning World Cup champion as well as the current Copa América winner. In the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Argentina tops the table, while Peru is at the very bottom. Based on that, I believe Argentina should have won by at least a 3-0 margin.

Argentina’s performance today was extremely poor. From what I observed, the players seemed to lack the desire to win. While Peru officially played in a 3-5-2 formation, their actual setup was more like a 5-4-1, which was evident from their playing style. Argentina’s players spent most of the match making back passes, continuously passing the ball to defenders. There was a noticeable lack of creativity among the players. They struggled to break through Peru’s four-man mid-block and couldn’t manage to deliver effective through passes into the final third.

Particularly, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández, and Nicolás Otamendi should be dropped from the starting eleven. Instead, Paredes, Lo Celso, and Lisandro Martínez should be included in the lineup. While many are happy with Argentina’s win, this victory doesn’t feel satisfying at all. If Argentina continues with their current form, their chances of achieving something significant in the next World Cup seem slim.
