The first half of this episode is dedicated to the World Cup final which saw Argentina beat France on penalties after an astonishing 3-3 draw over the course of regulation time. We chat about the fact Lionel Messi has won this trophy at last with no small thanks to a good supporting cast, Kylian Mbappe’s incredible hat-trick, Emi Martinez, and reflect on the tournament as a whole now that it’s over. In the second half of the show we answer listener questions about Alexis Mac Allister, Bukayo Saka’s contract, young players being courted by other clubs, Reiss Nelson and lots more – including an update on the Goodly Mug fundraiser and what we’re going to donate.

  1. Congratulations to Mesi. Very romantic. 👏 But to have rescued your team by scoring a hat trick in the WC Final, scored again in a penalty shootout, and topping it off, suffered the ignominy of accepting the Golden Boot… it must be unbearable. Devastated for Mbappe and for France.

  2. Argentina v France is like watching Chelsea v Spurs. You spent the whole match trying to work out who you hate more. I would like to add something to what James said. Yes, you can track Argentinas' win back to the Maupay, who whilsting playing for Brighton, assulted Leno. This gave Martinez a chance to play for Arsenal. He won us the fa cup and moved to the villa, then got picked by his country and saved a penalty against France. But remember, Maupay is French the irony
