Another lesson for Oxford United today about how hard life in the Championship is. It’s 8 without a win for the yellows as Swansea came ended Oxford’s unbeaten home record. It finished Oxford United 1-2 Swansea City. Please enjoy my review of this Sky Bet Championship game.

Oxford United are sliding down the EFL Championship table after they were well beaten by an excellent Swansea City side. Luke Williams Swans were in control for the majority of the game. Goals in either half from Zan Vipotnik and Florian Bianchini looked to make it an easy win for the Swans, but Dane Scarlett did score an excellent late goal to give Oxford some late hope. Oxford fans will start to press the panic button, but they really shouldn’t because there are still 33 games to go.

  1. I was more worried about how the team would move on from that Sunderland game than how the team actually played that game. I just think we’ve lost so much momentum and we just need to hang on til this next international break

  2. Not sure where Oxford can go from here with our injury list.
For me, Sibley and Dale aren't up to standard, and Ebiowei is lacking confidence and sharpness.
Our defence have stepped up from a defensive point of view, but teams have realised they can press us at will, and we can't pass through the press.
Scarlett is looking good, Harris needs a goal from somewhere.
Maybe we need to shift to 3-5-2 until our injury list is cleared?

  3. Miserable away experience. 3 stands..who's bright idea was that? Stadium in the middle of nowhere, poor dirty concourses, horrendous traffic management after the game. Will NEVER return.

  4. Swansea were average but Oxford were terrible. The good news is, there will certainly be 3 teams with less points than us at the end of the season, thus we will avoid relegation. Owen Dale is a lovely bloke but he needs a free transfer to Swindon.

  5. What did you think of sibleys tackle on grimes we certainly thought it was red in the away end but ref gave a yellow I didn’t have a perfect view on it, was it a red in your eyes

  6. Good review. ok I am panicking a little. Tuesday definitely feels like a big game.

Swansea played well and finished well. We played poorly and finished badly. Feels like I am just saying the same stuff every week. Buckingham is a good manager, but like any boss has his favourites. Harris and Rodrigues must be two of them. How they are keeping their places are beyond me. Aside from rodrigues finishing at bristol I can't recall anything positive from either of them recently to be honest.I watched the camera when harris was took off, he smiled and looked relived, thats a worry!
As you said We have a good squad but we really are missing some of these injured players. I think we are seeing which players can complete at this level, and which ones can't. Some are ok, trying hard, but not quite good enough. Scarlett deserves a good run in the team, as does leigh. Maybe we have to get goodwin going and see how he does.

For me dale, rodrigues, harris, sibley, and to a certain extent EL mazoni don't really look enough to keep us in the top half away from danger. I worked out its about 8 points we have thrown away with poor finishing so far, we need to buck that trend to stay up. We have another 3 or 4 who are just above sea level. Thankfully our defence is that good we are always kept in the game.

Big test now for the management. They need to create some threat from this team, and I am not sure they can with all the injuries. Ter avest looked ok, maybe bring him on and push kiosu forward? Drop anyone and get leigh in left side? Play them in midfield diamond and play goodrham at the top of it behind scarlett and goodwin? Who knows glad i'm not the manager!. Fingers crossed. Maybe win against hull and get hammered at watford? I'd take it as long as we get three points.

One positive is we are playing badly, with an injury hit team, and we were are always in the shake for at least a draw most games. 🙂

  7. We are always going to have to cope with injuries. The concern is that we haven't got enough Championship quality in depth in the squad to tide us over. Definitely bench Harris, Scarlett must start, and Goodwin needs a run from the start of a game.

  8. I think this is the worst I have seen us play since Bolton hammered us.
Straight from the start Swansea had two players on our 18 yard box plus five in front of the half way line. This killed our playing out from the back which I support. We did not change throughout the whole game. This is the fault of Des, he should have changed our system. The substitutes did not improve the game.
Swansea actually played like Oxford. Pressed high, passed the ball to each other and kept finding lots of space.
Best bits for me was the half time whistle and the full time whistle.
    Well done Swansea.

  9. Hi Ian keep up the great work,I think there were 3 parties at this game the officials yes Swansea were the better side, but the officials took more part than oxford, sometimes we are too honest on nieve,Swansea played the dark arts,we haven't learnt yet
