But ESPN says Pulisic is the new Messi…
I think David has always been really good. The problem has been that he plays for Lille, a mediocre team at best. I cant wait to see him play with world class players who can feed him all game long. He is scary good.
Sorry; but I totally disagree when you said that David is not getting it done for Canada internationally.
David scored Canada's 1st goal ever at the Copa América in a 1–0 victory against Peru. Then when Canada had their quarterfinal tie vs Venezuela, David scored Canada's first penalty en route to a 1–1 (4–3) victory. David & most of the normal starters, did not start for Canada's semi-final match vs Uruguay, but he came on & scored to give Canada the 2–1 lead in the 80th minute.Canada went on to lose 4–3 on penalties but David scored once again on his penalty attempt.
In September 2024, in a friendly against the U.S., when Canada dominated that match, David scored his 29th international goal in a 2–1 win to become Canada's all-time co-leader for goal scoring, along with his current, but much older teammate Cyle Larin (29).
Then on October 15th, 2024, Larin scored in their important Friendly vs Panama, because it set-up better seeding for Canada in the upcoming Nations League tournament & then David scored a beautiful game winning goal (2-1).
So at the young age of 24, David is tied as Canada's all time best goal scorer with 30 goals in 57 matches. Not too shabby at all.
But it's not just his goal scoring. David has been excellent off the ball too & he & Larin's terrific pressing & defensive games, as forwards, are one of the main reasons that Canada has been so successful since Jesse Marsch became Canada's coach.
Where Canada has improved greatly in the past 6 months, is the play of young players, Moise Bombito at right Central back & his partner Derek Cornelius at left center back. Bombito is one of the fastest players in the world & he has been outstanding this year. Marsch says that he is as talented as some of the best Center backs in the world that he has coached. He & Cornelius are both playing in Europe now.
You will be surprised how much Canada's midfield will improve by 2026. Joining Canada's excellent midfielder Eustaquio, is Ismael Kone, a 22 year old, who is going to be a star playing midfield & 25 year old Matt Choiniere, who is a late bloomer & he played really well versus the U.S. & Panama in the midfield. They are both now playing in Europe. Canada also just picked up the dual national midfielder 21 year old Niko Sigur, who plays in Croatia & was being groomed to play for Croatia's national team, but he chose Canada because he grew up here.
The future is bright indeed for Canada!
Interesting discussion. Jonathan David is a cold blooded killer in the box. It's important that he goes to the right club. He's better suited to play with another striker. Italy or Germany leagues would be perfect for him.
For CANMNT the progression is amazing the performances of Cornelius, Bambito in ligue 1 are a tremendous boost for the squad. Add to that the return of Tajon Buchannan, Ismael Kone from injuries would be huge.
The Marsch appointment has been a huge injection of energy to this team. He has all of Herdman qualities without the baggage.
David has been a world class player for some time now, our 3rd world class player is emerging in Moise Bombito
💪🍁
Davies, Kone, Bombito, David, the future is bright for the Canadian national team.
Our(Canadian) weak link before Copa was at centre-back. Marsch put Bombito and Cornelius there just before Copa and they’ve been rock solid. In midfield Kone and Chouiniere have strengthened the very reliable pairing of Eustachio and Osorio. This team is now better than the the ones that went to the World Cup and the Copa. Marsch is an upgrade on Herdman at manager. So…. look out CONCACAF, every dog has it’s day, and our day is here.
