Manchester United return to Old Trafford on Wednesday to host Leicester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
The Reds suffered a late defeat at West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday, after being held to a 1-1 draw at Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
Fixtures continue to come thick and fast and, with another cup competition providing an opportunity for success this term, United will be looking to progress past the Foxes this week.
TEAM NEWS
Bruno Fernandes returned to the fold in the capital on Sunday. Our skipper had served a one-match ban on Thursday in Turkey due to his red card against Porto in the previous fixture of the competition.
Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and Antony were all not available for selection in Sunday’s game against West Ham. Yoro has started individual training recently, while Malacia has been involved in team training following his own lengthy lay-off.
Leicester have been without Patson Daka, Jannik Vestegaard, Jakub Stolarczyk and Hamza Choudhury for much of this season and, while Steve Cooper has issued updates on each player’s progress, it doesn’t look likely that they will be involved at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
THE OPPOSITION
Leicester have had a mixed bag of form at the start of the 2024/25 season, as they returned to the top flight with a new manager. Enzo Maresca had steered the Foxes to the Championship title but, after he departed for Chelsea, former Nottingham Forest boss Cooper took charge at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Friday, one week after coming back from two goals down to win away at Southampton. After nine matches, Cooper’s team sit 15th in the table, one place below United.
In the Carabao Cup, Leicester eclipsed Tranmere Rovers 4-0 in the second round before penalties had to settled their third-round tie at League Two high-flyers Walsall.
They come into Wednesday’s fixture having not won against United in their last three attempts.
