Reaction from a disappointed Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday after Arsenal twice had the lead, but were eventually held to a 2-2 draw by Liverpool in the English Premier League.

The home side went ahead in the ninth minute with a fine Bukayo Saka effort, then Virgil van Dijk equalised for the visitors nine minutes later following a corner.

Spain midfielder Mikel Merino scored his first goal for Arsenal just before half time to make it 2-1.

Arteta’s team tried to hold on in the second half as injuries disrupted their balance.

With captain Martin Odegaard and left back Riccardo Calafiori already missing and centre back William Saliba suspended, losing two more defenders was the last thing Arteta needed, but Gabriel and Jurrien Timber were both forced to leave the field.

Arsenal had to reshuffle and a completely makeshift back four tried to see out the the final stages.

Liverpool were able to take advantage though and in the 81st minute Mo Salah converted from a Darwin Nunez pass and it ended 2-2.

Liverpool dropped into second place in the standings, a point behind champions Manchester City, who won 1-0 at home to Southampton on Saturday.

Arsenal lie third, but are now five points off the pace as their injury list continues to grow.
