At WC 2010 (South Africa), if Thomas Mueller was not harshly given the yellow card by the referee in the quarter-final win against Argentina, Germany — with Mueller in the lineup — would have likely won the semi-final against Spain, and gone on to the final. The ball came off an Argentine player and hit Mueller's arm, so it was completely unintentional and was a case of ball to hand. Germany always seem to get the short-end of the stick in controversial referee decisions, most of the times (Ukrainian referee ignored an English handball stopping a Germany strike inside the penalty area at Euro Women 2022 final against England; English referee didn't call a handball against a Spanish defender's handball in penalty area in extra time at Euro 2024).
