Man City have a NEW formation. But what are its strengths, weaknesses, why didn’t it work against Newcastle, and CAN it work at all?

In this post-match analysis, I focus on the midfield issues at City, and explore the impact of Foden.

  1. Great insight. You make these so easy to understand. Some football "content creators" think it's peak when they grab a microphone and say the most clickbait phrases. Thank you

  2. Seriously is Haaland the only player in this team who can score gaols for us 🤔 our entire attack depends on 1 PLAYER to get gaols which can easily be countered by marking him with 3 players + GK whenever the ball goes to him , if he's heavily marked every game the rest of the players need step and score or at least create scoring chance for someone that isn't Haaland.
We need to stop this " only Haaland scores gaols "mode .
It seems like the rest are just pass marchents who can't shoot or don't have any goal ambitions at all , where is the hunger for gaols ? Except Haaland i Don't see anybody else have it 🤨😡 .
Other Haaland if someone else score 10 PL goals this season i will go bold and don't eat any breakfast until season 25/26 start .

  3. Rodri tearing his acl is huge hit to us. I think we should really get a new DM in the January transfer window
Kovacic and gundo are great but they aren’t as good in that no6 role.
Reminder we could have gotten joao neves or amaduo onana in the last window
Rico fits perfectly the no6 role. But he is still very young and is at risk for injuries
My opinion would be just trying to hold everything together until the January transfer window

  4. The problem is clearly how akanji can’t play in midfield as he’s nowhere near good enough on the ball, it’s so obvious. Should’ve learnt from last year with how poorly we played as a team when akanji was in midfield, it’s not a coincidence🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

  5. I hope Pep figures things out before it's late. I have a feeling that should Arsenal go top, they won't lose any matches easily. We may never catch them up.
On the other hand, have you ever wondered, mate? We all knew that we needed someone who can play with Rodri or alongside Rodri, but we decided not to do anything about it. We all know that we are a Haaland injury away to be in shambles, but still the board ain't doing anything about it.
We know Walker ain't as good anymore but we did not get a Simacan or anybody.
Something is just not adding up with our club. Maybe it's the 115 , maybe it's the uncertainty with Pep's extension but we are definitely not us.
I am all about positivity but I think the 115 surely is as bad as the opponents say they are

  6. Its quite surprising Pep tried out this tactic, since we were doing great with
Gvardiol Dias Akanji Lewis at the back and Kova as the DM, even before Rodri was reintroduced to the team. Some people on twitter even found it hard to drop someone for Rodri and Foden later

  7. Let's have some patience. We've lost arguably our 2 best players. We've changed formation and tactics. Pep is having to experiment on the fly, and the players are therefore in the same boat. Let's give them some time to figure it out. Unfortunately our first major test was against a tough opponent, so we couldn't ease into it. Seeing alot of head loss. C'mon blues, we're not Arsenal. Let's have some maturity as we go through these growing pains. We owe them that after so many years of excellence. With all due respect, Nobbins, I think I'll trust Pep on what he "must" do. I trust he'll see that it didn;t quite work out, and he'll respond to that. I don't think we should act like we know better

  8. Good analysis. Just prepare yourself; like he does every season, Pep – experiments w/ lineups, combinations and tactics until January, then fine tunes the machine until April. Then wins 10-12 in a row for a run in to the title.

  9. question, what's your thoughts on the winger selection? grealish/silva makes sense for control but as you mentioned, we lacked the creativity – i'm fine with them not starting (we have a bit of an injury crisis rn and we probably don't want players running into arguably the most physical team in the PL), but imo they should have been subbed in earlier (alongside Foden, perhaps) to have more opportunities to dribble tired legs and create more chances. just my 2c though and i'm curious to hear what you have to say!

  10. The thing about Rodri is that I wouldn't call him a great defensive player: he's not. He's very slow and spends a lot of time ahead of the ball. I think his main value comes from his physicality, his build up play capability, and his contribution to the attack and in possession, which can be a form of defense. Kovacic is quicker and great at carrying the ball to the final third, but his contribution stops there. He's not a great passer, doesn't really distribute the ball well, is a reckless tackler, and adds little to nothing to the attack. When one adds all that up and the fact that he doesn't think like a DM, City end up having to compensate too much in other areas. City didn't necessarily need a like for like replacement for Rodri, but I do wish they had brought in a player who is maybe just okay on the ball, but would shore up the defense, which lacks athleticism, especially with Ake out.

  11. Hey bro pep is dropping foden in the bench because he know what happened to pedri and rodri and foden played in the euro final so he know alerady rodri is injured and even look at rodris body and he got acl and now look at foden so you can clearly see that if anyone hit on his leg its over kdb is a injury prone rodri is already injured and if foden got injured we will absolutely trash so thats why pep is not starting foden yeah we need to win games but we need to save foden in the big games to soo thats why giving him rest definitely will help us in title charge one day

  12. Good argument!! But! Newcastle didn't score in open play, only with a sleepwalking Walker, pen.
Jack held everything together on attack, Gundo, made egotistical decisions, slowly!! Matti got lost in moments, akanji dealt with gorden, forcing him to dive for pen!! Yes,,,, it was poor but yet, we draw at Newcastle, remember we struggled last year!! No Bobby, or KDB 🤒 great show, young blood 👍
