The media in Brazil have revealed some of the evidence against Lucas Paqueta in relation to the betting charges by the English FA. It is reported that Paqueta’s Uncle and Cousin borrowed money from Luiz Henrique, the other player alleged to have committed fraud, and repaid him in 2023. Geo and Frankie also discuss the 5-1 defeat to Liverpool and how West Ham United could get on against Brentford with a discussion around Mohammed Kudus.

  1. Good show. Agree with Frankie that Kudus is the elephant in the room for the balance of team. For me Sommerville starts on the left and Kudus centrally or on the bench. I actually thought Fabianski distribution better than Areola and I'd start him Sat too.

  2. All we need is a good technical manager who is able to make use of the talent we have currently and any addition. Anything short of that will be disastrous, as our players will want to look away from the club and it will be difficult for us to attract quality players. Don’t forget that players do talk to each other and can influence transfer/move. It’s crazy to spend so much on players and then looking for a bargain on a manager. Some of our players that we have let go is due to lack of a good manager who can develop them and get the best out of them and not necessarily means they are not good players. It’s the same problem with our youth players that we have not been able to develop/adapt to the senior team but we are ready to spend so much on young talent from other teams/clubs.

  3. It’s not a ‘smoking gun’. A smoking gun is unequivocal and a direct link. This is more like unhelpful revelations. Nonetheless, as Geo says, it’s on ‘balance of probabilities’ (like a civil case) which means Paq is likely going down.

  4. Paq is screwed in my opinion. The financial link and relationship between both parties have now been made. Also why would Paquetas family need a loan from another player when he is on 80k a week.
Stupid as this is over the amount of money he makes in a few hours. This will be done on probability and this whole situation looks dodgy as hell. Hope I’m wrong.

  5. Really enjoyed the show. I was at Liverpool and quite liked Todibo. Saw a lot of glimpses of positivity. Think Bowen should be on the right on try kudos upfront. Bring krug on at half time if it’s not working. Have to say I find it slightly annoying that we spent the whole of the last three years complaining we knew on Sunday morning what the squad would be on Wednesday night! And now we complain we don’t. New manager, massive squad change. He needs a season and expectations need to be sensible. Mid table is all anyone should expect from this season. COYIs

  6. What I don't understand is that why would either player risk their huge salaries for a relatively paltry amount? It doesn't make sense.
Also, Paqueta does get booked the whole time. So much so, he's actually a nutter; do you remember the insane way he behaved in the away game at Leverkusen? It was like he was trying to get himself sent off.
IMO, a loan IS v possible, although it is a bit weird that it isn't from his nephew, Paqueta. It will need a paper trail for the loan….

  7. If my uncle murders someone does that make me a murderer?

It’s nonsense, if it doesn’t directly relate to Paqueta then it shouldn’t even be noted. If convicted this is pretty much a life sentence, they need to be very sure that Paqueta was directly involved

  8. I'm hoping we sell Kudus in January for 80m+ and use all that and our available cash to buy a decent winger from the Championship and use the huge bulk of the remainder to get the best striker in the world we can afford

  9. Paqueta is guilty as hell. We all know it. Why not play a false 9 and have Summerville, Kudus and Bowen as a front 3 with Paqueta, Soler and Soucek behind them in a 4-3-3?

  10. If this all comes on top for a pittance really to throw away a career worth millions.
You would think if they was at it they would have offshore accounts

  11. Whilst the usual FA approach is balance of probabilities, I reckon they may have to take a legal approach of reasonable doubt on this one. If a player is going to get a sanction then return to the game, it's not in their interest to seek legal recourse. If they impose a sanction against LP that effectively ends his career however , they better be sure it will stand up in a court of law because you can be sure that's where his legal team will take it because at that point he has nothing to lose
