The problem is the diplomacy side of the job. The F.A want diplomacy AND coaching. That's almost impossible. The best coach is never diplomatic. They like winning, and don't care what people think. The FA went for Southgate for so long because he was very diplomatic. But that doesn't mean a winning mentality. He wasn't bold enough in the big games. The F. A need to decide do they want a ruthless winner or a yes man. The yes man can't win trophies, as Southgate demonstrated. So now they must go for the ruthless winner. England reminded me of the golden generation of Belgium. They have a lot of but don't necessarily guarantee winning trophies at the highest level. I think we as English fans are too arrogant.
