  1. He's already played for England U18s and U19s over the last 18 months or so doubt he'll be called up for the U21s until next season now. Could be in with a shout of the U20 World Cup though.

  2. i dont get it why he feels the need to play for england, i mean, he grew up in portugal, he grew up in the portuguese football education, just because his family is english doesnt mean he has to play for england, he would be more grateful if he played for portugal, if he turns out to be a good footballer he only has to thank portugal, i dont mind him playing for england but he is more portuguese than pepe, liedson or deco for example

  3. If he has someone to thank is sporting's academy, not Portugal. If he wants to play for England, let him. Would you want someone playing for your country against his will?

  4. I know he was born in England aswell, so he probably feels that he is English. It's up to the player himself which country he chooses to play for I suppose. Personally I think we need more players like him in the England set up who've had experience of a different footballing culture other than our over-rated premier league.

  5. i hope he stays in sporting for a while… sporting has alot of young prospects that exploded last season and hopefully we will be back to champions league and such. if he doesnt get called to england it would be nice to see him in the portuguese squad… he seems to have the portuguese football personality along with the english physical prowess wich is a nice combination

  6. How many english players are in starting 11 at Chelsea, City or even Man U? You'd be in big trouble if you tried to squeeze 11 english players out of the 3 top PL teams.

  7. Lol it doesn't have to be the top 3 clubs where players are picked from…look at Baines, highest amount of chances created out of any player in Europe this season. And that's beside the point, English players are the hearts of the clubs, the Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Carrick, Ferdinand, Wilshere….and it goes on.

  8. He was talking about lifting european trophies, so he meant Chelsea and ManUtd. Without foreigners, both would be very little competitive. Like England squad. where's England in the Euros and WC? Portugal, since 2000 has one 2nd, two 3rd places in 4 Euros and a 4th place in WC 2006. Having said that, it's only natural that Dyer prefers to play for England, it's his and his family's country. As for clubs, Sporting is the best choice for any 18yo. Every year they promote 3,4,5 youths to 1st team

  9. Hart,Lescott,Richards,Milner,Rooney,Ferdinand,Clevley,Young,Welbeck,Carrick,Zaha,Smalling,Jones,Cole,Terry,Lampard,Cahill,Gerrard,Wilshere,Defoe,Walker,Johnson,Baines,Lennon,Barry,Sturridge,Chamberlain,Sterling,Dawson,Walcott all play for teams in the top 6/7 teams in england

  10. More English players should play aboard and learn different styles. I think players like Tom Huddlestone, Gabby A. from Aston Villa, and many others should do what this kid is doing. Rather then staying in England go play at a club like Sporting or some other club that gets CL football and play at the highest level. Those clubs have such great infrastructure that it is silly not to see more young English players doing this.

  11. He should of stayed in Portugal and develop more and then maybe get picked with the england squad but now it will be difficult because totenham are not good at bringing in youngsters
