Liverpool closely monitors Jamal Musiala’s transfer after a £120 million bid was rejected.
Jamal Musiala has reportedly turned down Bayern Munich’s latest contract offer to remain with the German club. Liverpool is said to be interested in the former Chelsea academy player, but they are likely to face competition from Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.
Musiala, 21, is entering the final two years of his contract, which he last renewed in 2021 after breaking into the first team. Since then, he has become one of the Bundesliga’s top players. His impressive form continued into the European Championship this summer, where he was named in the team of the tournament and was one of the joint top scorers, despite Germany not advancing past the quarter-finals.
Musiala is seeking a weekly salary of £300k on a new contract, as his advisors believe this would better reflect his value in the sport. However, he was not among the 30 Ballon d’Or nominees, unlike his Bayern teammate Harry Kane, who reportedly earns £400k per week in Munich.
Discussions between Musiala and Bayern are ongoing, but there are concerns in Bavaria about their ability to compete financially with City or Madrid. Bayern has previously lost David Alaba and Toni Kroos to the Spanish club.
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, commented on Musiala recently, stating, “We have been in discussions for months. We will sit down and talk; we will do this in our own time. Jamal knows what he has at Bayern, and we know what we have in Jamal. He should become one of the key players at Bayern. We want to win the Champions League and national titles, and our ambitions will help Jamal achieve his own personal rewards.”
City has been monitoring Musiala for the past year, and with their former player Vincent Kompany now Bayern’s new head coach, they are a potential rival. However, Liverpool, Arsenal, and United are also considered contenders, even though Madrid seems to be City’s main competitor.
