Canelo Alvarez knocked Edgar Berlanga down in the third round and controlled the super middleweight title fight from start to finish at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, retaining his belt by taking a unanimous decision in front of 20,312 on Mexican Independence Day weekend.
But it was hardly a classic. Berlanga had done nothing to earn the fight and was a 20-1 favorite at times. He was a 3-1 favorite to win by knockout. This was expected to be a blowout, and it was.
There were far better opponents Alvarez could have chosen but that’s something that’s become far too common recently.
I want to see the Alvarez of old, the guy who challenged Floyd Mayweather, the guy who sought out Erislandy Lara and the like.
I miss that Alvarez.
Let’s hope we get a vastly better opponent for his next bout.

I completely agree with you, Kevin Iole. Canelo resume is great. But Boxing Fans around the world want exciting violent fights. Not perfect, manufactured, records. Great Job Kevin. Keep on reporting Real tough topics in the combat world

Always honest reviews w you man!
First you mentioned jermell as a welterweight going up and all these fighters going up but say canelo needs to fight bud ?? 2nd all Bivol talks about is not giving Canelo a 2nd opportunity. 3rd David ran to 175 used his wbc mando to fight Gvozdyk sent a letter to the wbc demanding to stay at 175 after being pressured to chose to fight Canelo or stay at 175. Pretty sure you know all about this …….
Hey Kevin
Oscar in his prime was so good
Benevidez looked horrible at 175 he needs to prove his worth plus his old man talked his way out if a payday screw them
