Arsenal injury news Lucas Torreira out for eight to ten weeks
Arsenal injury news: Lucas Torreira out for eight to ten weeks out with fractured ankle. Lucas Torreira’s season may be over as Arsenal have confirmed he is set for up to ten weeks out with a fractured ankle. The 24-year-old midfielder suffered the injury in the early stages of the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup. He was stretchered off the pitch and was later spotted leaving the stadium in a leg brace and on crutches, and was in the stands for Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Ham. Arsenal had been awaiting test results to determine how serious Torreira’s injury is, but on Monday confirmed that he is set for ‘eight to ten weeks’ on the sidelines. That would take the midfielder to the final week of the season, which mean he may sit out of Arsenal‘s campaign-closing game against Watford at the Emirates Stadium on May 17. Torreira looked in serious pain after a heavy challenge from James Bolton, who appeared to win the ball, at Fratton Park on March 2. The Uruguayan received oxygen on the pitch before being stretchered off after just 16 minutes of play. Manager Mikel Arteta had hoped the injury was not a serious one, but now faces playing the rests of the season without the midfielder. “The best scenario, I’m not optimistic, is in a week or two he will be available,” the Arsenal boss said last week. “Hopefully he can avoid any surgeries which is always very traumatic and hopefully we can have him before the end of the season, it would be much better.”
