Colin’s back from vacation with plenty of fresh takes!

He starts by reacting to the news that USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter has been relieved of his duties following an early round exit of the Copa America despite a young roster that hasn’t entered its prime.

He implores TNT to make an aggressive bid to keep the NBA in order to keep the “Inside the NBA” crew of Shaq, Charles, Kenny and Ernie together AND to keep him as a consumer.

He pushes back on criticism of USC football and dives into the reasons why NIL will make it difficult for USC to compete with the top teams in college football, and why Major League Baseball should lower the mound in order to make the game more exciting.

Finally, he weighs in on the post-debate media firestorm surrounding Joe Biden staying in the presidential race and why the Democrats’ problem isn’t the coverage… it’s the candidate.

TIMELINE:
0:00:00 – Colin is back
0:01:25 – Berhalter out from USMNT
0:05:37 – NBA / TNT
0:11:06 – NBA / Bronny James
0:15:03 – USC / Lincoln Riley
0:22:03 – Baseball

  1. Heres my take on the Gregg stuff. Sure, he had a solid win percentage, sure he had a younger team. But over his tenure all I have seen is stagnation, and a culture of complacency. Making it out of the group stages in the WC was the minimum expectation for a team that has been ranked in the top 15 like the US have, especially in a group that has Wales and Iran. Losing to Netherlands was expected, but the WC was still a slight disappointment in my eyes when we tie Wales and barely skate by Iran. The Copa was a MASSIVE disappointment. Only beating Bolivia 2-0 was the start…that team was horrific. The Panama loss was embarrassing, regardless of only having 10 men. But seeing Gregg yell to the team about Bolivia tying Panama is when I realized we need to move on. Again – complacency. Why are we playing to tie and assuming the other game will remain a tie? We need to play to WIN. And I was frustrated to hear Matt Turner postgame say ' I see no issues with the direction we are heading'. I think everyone got too comfortable. US fans are tired of hearing 'we will get better'. We need to see progress, especially with this talented of a team. Our all-MLS teams performed better than this. The Copa was Greggs last chance to prove me wrong that he can utilize our talent and we flamed out big time. A change had to be made if the US is serious about competing in the 26 WC. Glad they did the right thing and hope we can get a manager that pushes our team to be great, not to just skate by with draws and complacent soccer.

  2. Colin – I respect your Gregg Berlhalter winning percentage take however, it’s similar to Mike Tomlin not having a losing season or Cowboys (or Miami lately) not winning any meaningful postseason game. These players are good enough and in their prime to reach the late stages of the Copa America. The coach had to go!

  3. I want more mainstream coverage of soccer, but winning percentage without context means nothing. Wins against top 30 opponents (ELO Ranking) not named Mexico (who is on the decline), is under 12%. 2 wins from 17 and they are over Ecuador in a 2019 friendly, and Iran at the world cup. If you include wins over Mexico – it raises to 25%, record against Mexico in this stretch is 4W-1D-2L.

64% is impressive, but when you cant win against better opposition, that context is necessary imo.

  4. I love you Colin and you're welcome in the soccer family BUT…Sadly, this take clearly illustrates why you'd correctly be considered "an outsider" and your opinion would be dismissed as uninformed. People aren't judging a manager soley on their win percentage. It's not baseball or the NFL where the only teams you play are in good teams in meaningful games in your league. But to humor you, A high win percentage is irrelevant when it's only against bad competition, in largerly noncompetitive matches, and in matches that don't matter. Berhalter beat nobody good ever. He beat only the world's crappy teams. Arthur Smith was fired by the Falcons. Would you keep him if he had the exact same record in the nfl but also had a high win percentage because his falcons also beat 30 high school teams in practice games? Of course not. Nobody cares if you win all your games against the Morocco C team. You look at win percentage. But those who have been paying attention look at the quality of the competition, the failure to start his best players, the failure to beat any good teams which all prior manager have done, only just getting out of the group at a world cup which all prior managers have done, the inability to make in game tactical adjustments to save a game, the illogical substitutions like when you need a goal subbing in a right back whose is known to have only defensive attributes, the complacency and comfortable environment he's created among players that don't have to fight for their spot, the players who can never play at club but start, and and people can go on and an.

  5. Prove your worth then compares soccer to other American sports. 🤣🤣😂😂 Winning in FUTBOL has nothing to be compared to any American sport. That's why we suck.

  6. Colin, I love your podcast, but please stop talking politics. I come here to escape and distract from the nonsense that is politics. There are plenty of channels for those interested in politics.

  7. 32:57 you didn’t notice for two years of his presidency? When you started to notice you should’ve gone back and looked at stuff from his first year. It wouldn’t have taken the deepest of dives and it should’ve re-contextualized why he never did a debate in 2020

  8. Collin, let me educate you on the climate scam. There are scientists on both ends who say its climate change and then some who say its nonsense. Do research, the weather 100 years ago was far worse. This current WH has had zero credibility since day one. You saying CNN, you lose credibility. Are you one of their 12 viewers? Harsh on biden? Lol yet you take cnn seriously lol cnn knew 4 years ago that biden was old and feeble. You say there are no good canidates, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Trump.🤷‍♂️

  9. How was the media lied to? The network you work for Fox has been saying since 2020 that biden is in early stages of dementia, CNN and MSNBC also knew this and were covering for him. Biden the canidate is not the issue, the policies are. We have war all over the world thanks to weak liberal policies so just stop lying to people. You know better and so do we

  10. OMG STOP LYING. How did it take you two years to see the decline in biden? Do you not have an iphone collin? I guess not. You're a lib,not an independent. Btw they are hammering biden ONLY they want him gone because hes guranteed to lose

  11. “Always blame the coach” lol yes because none of the coaches have been good coaches. Berhalters record against Cuba and El Salvador are irrelevant

  12. To be fair to TNT, how many people watch the NBA season outside of the In Season Tournament & the Post season? Aside from basketball diehards & media people who have to for their job, how many people watch the network in general? They have no good original shows (outside of AEW, but you have to be a wrestling fan to care.) The point is, I think TNT is dead anyway & will be out of business (for all intense purposes) with in the next 3-4 yrs.I don't think losing money is gonna save them one way or the other.

  13. Collin, by all means please do talk about soccer. We appreciate the attention. However, if you don’t know much about the sport, then please make sure you at least have on proper guests who do. You’re allowed to have opinions as well, just make sure you have someone who can hep educate you while you learn. That’s all

  14. Colin: I am not a super knowledgeable soccer fan but you are speaking to records without considering context.

You have a stellar record of consider context when talking about football and other main sports, so I am left to assume you are just being lazy.

Go back on vacation, you are not ready yet.

  16. ignorant takes on ALL the sports he usually covers…. colin just needed to humiliate himself with soccer also😂🤣

  17. Can you do a mailbag? You mentioned casuals and I’d love to know what you think you are. It’s not casual but it’s not helpful news. Love the show

  18. I think you talked yourself into firing Berhalter instead of what you meant to do which seemed to be defending him? lol Yes – teams win when they’re in their prime. and the team just got bounced in the copa and didn’t make it out of group play, with their best players in their prime? so by your own logic, yes fire him. lol

  19. Colin doesn’t watch baseball either. The pitchers aren’t having a cool time mowing down hitters in 3 pitches like he says. Theres a reason guys have like 80 pitches into the 5th inning and starters don’t go 7-8 innings anymore. They are having long at bats trying to get hitters out.

  20. It's very nice to be at work on a Saturday listening to organic unbiased politics. We all know Colin can be a little biased when it comes to sports especially LA sports but I appreciate his takes on politics.

  21. Love your stuff Colin but if you arnt gonna watch the games don’t comment on the team, pullisic isn’t entering his prime he’s been there but don’t act like his prime is Messi either

  22. Harbaugh was winning early at Michigan then fell off when he started trying to recruit in the south. ONLY REASON HE WON LATE WAS BECAUSE OF HIS RELATIONSHIPS. OHIO STATE GAVE HIM THOSE WINS 😂. DEF GONNA BE SUCCESSFUL THOUGH

  23. You bring up Berhalter win percentage seriously!!! He played weaker teams and refused to push this team like Klinsmann and even Bradley did.. that’s like saying Josh McDaniels is a great coach and his 17 game schedule is the Giants 4 times, the Panthers 4 times, the Patriots 4 times, the Cardinals 4 times and the Broncos once
