Hansi Flick has had a perfect start at Barcelona, and while his first games weren’t perfect, we’re starting to see his philosophy take effect, and is blurring the lines between fixed positional play and relationism.
In today’s video we cover Hansi Flick’s barcelona tactics, and how it’s getting the most out of players like Lewandowski, Raphinha, Yamal and Cubarsì, by looking at their recent matches like Barcelona vs valladolid, or Rayo Vallecano vs Barcelona.

How would you say that this compares to Ten Hag’s tactics? Particularly in the buildup it seems very similar but Ten Hag is being slated for it
i've seen with flick the most perfect positional 433 since guardiola. perfect because position is what matters, not players. all zones are perfectly occupied, albeit not by a fixed player as it was with xavi. triangles are there, as with xavi, but players rotate in a way xavi didn't allow. this and the fact that flick has midfielders doing midfield things, forwards doing forward things and so on, contrary to xavi playing with the 8s between central defenders and fullbacks, a place in which they're completely inefficient. defensively, the main difference for me is the intention in the press. with xavi it was all in, with flick if the ball cannot be won at least the press is meant to force the opposition to play in a certain way that benefits us. as i said in the beginning of the comment, this has the most guardiola vibes in years.
The litmus test for Barca will be against much tougher opponents. e.g., RM& others in the CL.
Italy defeat France
Can you explain the tactics
they’ll be get exposed by madrid the way they build up and press
We also deserve a video on Vincent Komany tactics at Bayern
I think Hansi Flick's understanding of football has nothing to do with 'relationism'. Most of the ideas he is using now he already were using in Bayern. In my opinion his actual squad is even stronger in possession then the one he had in Munich. Müller was not in his prime anymore, Olmo probably is. Yamal and Raphinha are better options then Sane, Coman or Gnabry. Question will be how good this team is in defending. The central defenders and holding mids are very young, Kounde is a bit overrated and if Balde can be as good as prime Aphonso Davis, I don't know… Will be nice to see. But please don't try to see everywhere the same ideas. He has nothing to do with the relationism of Deniz. Ancelotti has also nothing to do with that and Xabi Alonso also not. Rotations, overloads and stuff like that are not new ideas. Just some coaches lilke them more than others bc they go hand in hand with some risk's when you loose the ball. Flick, as well as Ancelotti, is just looking for the optimal use of the threads of his squad. The idea to defend in the first line with the wingers and closing the center with Lewandowski + Olmo is a perfect example for that. If they really win the ball during pressing, what would you do with Lewandowski in the most advanced position? Nowadays he is not fast enough for counter attacks and Olmo also not. But Yamal and Raphinha are really dangerous in attacking free spaces. It's the same idea which Klopp were using in Liverpool when they played with Firminho, Sala and Mane.
what is the tactical boards that you use , please tell
I'd say it has to do more with wanting to play direct football. Some bad pre-conception of modern football that many positional managers make and have caused is not practicing exchanging of position a lot throughout the game (having 2 guys switch positions while making both a run in behind/space and the other asks for a ball at feet with a different side movement). They all just go and play with all of them locked into a position with horseshoe nails.
Mostly the positioning of Wingers, I have not seen a German coach that doesn't play with wingers who actually make forward runs into the 3 inside channels and the opposite center back, from Klopp, Dino Topmoller, Sebastian Hoeness, back in time Heynckes to when Tuchel had good spells, to Naggelsmann when he had to use 3-4-3s. The role of the roaming second forward or of the 2 wingers is to make runs and attack the last line of defense, that's where space is created for many German/German upbringing coaches, direct football, direct passes and quick combinations in the last third and take a pass when there's space.

I think you kinda undermined how much kounde still drops as a third centreback, kounde for me is the one player whose role has been very similar to last season, he's still not pushing too forward and still drops very often as the wide cb on the right, i just think that as time has went on he has just gotten better at acting as a fullback with the underlaps and overlaps which weren't the best last season from him
I get it. But I don't like it.
Central overloads and through balls behind the defence is not relationism. Flick has always been employing positional play, it's just that his version of it is different from Pep's or Arteta's.
Cool video, keep up the good work!
What is the name of app you are using ?
"Finally help them get back on top of La Liga" in the end of the video is a bit much no? It's literally only 1 year ago that they were champions, it's not like they're on some long barren spell of not winning anything.
i miss the animations. bring it back. and a lovely analysis by the way.
WE NEED ENGLISH SUBTITLES BRO
We didn’t struggle bro maybe against Valencia for 20 min and Rayo but we dominated the rest😊
Would you say some of these principles are similar to those employed by Arne Slot? Especially that concept of the “central cluster” you coined in your Slot analysis…
Visca barca ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We need Analysis on Lee carsley tactics for England
Tightening the space around a midfield that is simply press resistant is like a baby python trying to constrict a horse.
Damn the tactic board look dope
board App name?
Hey um a question what app are u using for your tactics explanation
Flick is the most underrated coach.
With Bayern he won ALL POSSIBLE 6 titles in 1 year!
The matches ended 2-1 but there was no struggle. Anyone who watched the games would see that. They were very comfortable wins. speaking as a barca fan. I have never felt more comfortable holding a 2-1 lead
The press could be really vulnerable id the opposition have pacy wingers. Flick might need to make a few adjustments to fix that problem.
MAAAAAAADDDD CLOWN JOKER VAMOOOOOS BAAAAARÇAA🤪💙❤️🔥
Flick has the potential to surpass Pep
Let's see when Barcas best player Gavi is back
