Liverpool “approached” Real Madrid about two players, as the club took a firm transfer stance.
Despite the summer transfer window closing, Liverpool remains connected with potential new signings. The next chance for the Reds to bolster their squad will be when the transfer window reopens in January.
Liverpool made two key signings during the summer transfer window: Federico Chiesa joined from Juventus in a £12.5 million deal, and Giorgi Mamardashvili was acquired from Valencia, though he will spend the rest of the season on loan with the La Liga side.
Liverpool also pursued Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad over the summer, but the Spanish international opted to stay with his current club rather than move to Anfield.
Liverpool showed interest in two Real Madrid players during the summer—Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo. Although the Reds reportedly ‘checked in’ on these players at the beginning of the transfer window, no formal offers were made. It is believed that Liverpool holds ‘admiration’ for both players but were informed by Madrid that neither would be available for transfer.
Past reports have mentioned Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo, and while Liverpool had previously attempted to sign Tchouameni in 2022 before his move from Monaco to Madrid, they did not pursue him further.
Additionally, Liverpool has been made aware of Brentford’s position on Bryan Mbeumo’s future. The Reds have been linked with the forward recently, with speculation that they might try to secure a deal in January. However, Brentford has no intention of letting Mbeumo leave the Gtech Community Stadium soon. The Bees are aware of potential interest from clubs like Liverpool but have clearly stated they are not open to selling Mbeumo in the near future.
