Real Madrid plan to pursue Trent Alexander-Arnold via Mbappe, despite Liverpool’s stance.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool remains a topic of speculation. The vice-captain’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and it is uncertain whether he will agree to a renewal.
A product of Liverpool’s Kirkby academy, Alexander-Arnold has evolved from a youth prospect to one of the top right-backs globally. At 25, he was appointed vice-captain in 2023 after James Milner’s departure, with Virgil van Dijk taking over the captaincy following Jordan Henderson’s exit.
Real Madrid’s Interest In Trent Alexander-Arnold
Real Madrid continues to have an interest in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold next summer if he does not secure a new contract with Liverpool. Real Madrid plans to approach Alexander-Arnold in January, when he will be in the final six months of his current deal. However, negotiations between Liverpool and the defender are still “ongoing.”
As it stands, Alexander-Arnold could agree to a pre-contract deal with Madrid in January if he does not renew his contract with Liverpool. Real Madrid is considering signing Alphonso Davies on a pre-contract agreement next summer, as his contract with Bayern Munich will also expire at the season’s end. It is suggested that Madrid might follow a similar approach to their previous free transfer acquisitions, including Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba.
Liverpool’s Position
During the summer transfer window, there were strong links between Alexander-Arnold and a potential move to Real Madrid, with speculation that he might have been sold if an offer had been made. Liverpool had no interest in letting Alexander-Arnold leave before the season began or before the transfer window closed. There has been no indication that Alexander-Arnold himself is looking to leave Anfield.
As the vice-captain of his childhood club, Alexander-Arnold has openly expressed his ambition to eventually become Liverpool’s captain. He has also made it clear that he prefers not to have speculation about his future overshadow his career. As a result, there have been no significant updates on the right-back’s long-term future so far.
