The Morning Footy crew discuss the scenes that Enzo Fernández broadcast live via social media from the Argentinian bus after their Copa America victory. The team were singing a chant containing racist and homophobic lyrics aimed at the French National Team. The French Football Federation has announced plans to file a legal complaint over the incident and Chelsea issued a statement condemning the incident after several French Chelsea players made public comments criticizing the scene. Fernández issued an apology also on social media that said in part, “Those words do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologize for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations.” The group discuss the ramifications and ugliness of it all.

  1. Enough of this unnecessary accusations, no body can convince us that what Enzo did is dangerous than what the so call France country is/has don to the Africa continent, those are the things you should be bashing at, nothing is racist their

  3. You are wrong, You are the R4cist, You stoled millions of African and Made The SUFFER AL LIFE, France has Colonies in Africa and steals gold and explotes African countries, FRANCE USA INLGAND should apologise for ever and retorn all that have bieng stealing

  4. !!ARGENTINIA as a country thinks they are European but they are the dregs of the Italian Shait. And has finally come to the surface

  5. I am Argentinian. We never invaded Africa. Never have colonies there. We never been part of the slave trade. Never have racist incidents. The country received immigrants for all over the world. We abolish slavery in 1813, before the British. Even though we are tagged as racist by the most racist countries in the planet. People who speaks without even knowing where Argentina is. The level of hypocrisy is astounding.

  6. It's easy. Argentina is the scapegoat of the true supremacists that Europeans ALWAYS were and will always be. Is the song racist? Yes. Shouldn't Enzo Fernandez have sung it? Yes. But you can't accuse an entire country of being racist because of a LITERALLY 5-second video. They are hurt because in their extreme Eurocentrism they cannot understand that a South American country can beat them and they invent these things. Argentina is a much safer country than any other country in Europe. I assure you that being Muslim, Asian, Jewish, and gay is safer in Argentina than, for example, in France. Furthermore, Argentina has to have its discussions about racism, but about its own racism. Not the one that Europeans want to impose. You put skin color above everything, that's why you will never be able to understand Argentines because we never had those problems. When France colonized Africa and there was apartheid in most African countries, in Argentina people were marrying and having children among Creoles, indigenous people, blacks, and mulattoes. Then in the 20th century came the great wave of migration from Europeans and Asians and the same thing. Argentina is a country totally integrated by thousands of cultures. Not like France, which has first and second class citizens and the Africans are alienated in their own modern ghettos. What bothers the French and the Europeans the most is that Argentina looks at them as equals. They want submission and they will never find it from an Argentine. Fix your racial problems because if there is a country where they kill you for being black, that country is not Argentina…

  7. one brought up the point if the majority is racist, they dont care and gaslight. other brought up having a platform, racists pretend dont exist

  8. But the Argentinian player just said the truth: a lot of the French players proceed from Africa; Hernandez didn't say anything offensive against the black people; or saying that you proceed from England being born in the USA is offensive?

  9. Hi, argentinian here 🤪 To me people complaining about all of this is funny because argentina is that one friend who does not intend to be mean and only makes stupid jokes until it goes too far and it offends someone. We even sometimes offend our own friends and family! The culture here is very permissive with jokes, so crossing the line from funny to controversial is very easy, especially in the international context, where people don't understand our background. Is this bad? Maybe, but it has its good aspects, like making us a culture very open to discussing topics that are considered taboo in other countries. I grew up in this country, where I was free to discuss any topic with my elders, my peers, my friends, and anyone else.

I don't deny that racism exists here, but it's not deeply ingrained or socially acceptable. You can't be openly racist without facing consequences. And to me, reducing the conversation to labeling an entire country as racist because of a football chant, which is already influenced by its own fan culture, seems like a narrow perspective that seeks to demonize us.
By no means i am saying we are correct and the rest of the world isnt, everyone is entitled to their opinion. BUT we are neither the racists nor the villains you think us to be.

  10. Argentinians and Messi are racists . As captain he has never vocally castigated his fellow teammates or local fans on their racists overtures. There is no acceptable context for being a racist. They should ban Enzo !!!. No black player should play alongside him or with him!

  11. Argentinians and Messi are racists . As captain he has never vocally castigated his fellow teammates or local fans on their racists overtures. There is no acceptable context for being a racist. They should ban Enzo !!!. No black player should play alongside him or with him!

Ban Enzo – Apology not accepted !

  12. They are not discrediting their French identity. They are highlighting the truth in that the majority of players playing for the French national team are of African descent. That’s the truth!— you bring a poor comparison by using griezman and Theo as an example. The majority of these players are of african descent. So what so racist about voicing the truth in a satirical fashion

  13. It's very easy to be inclusive when it's convenient for you to be. By the way, Argentina has a very varied and very large indigenous population, I don't think it can be very racist in a society like this. But in the stupid world we live in, there are people who still believe that discrimination is between black and white. Let's see when they start putting indigenous people in Disney instead of blacks, are they saving it for 2030-2040? Idiots.

  16. I'm Brazilian and I confirm, that racism is "commom" and even cultural for argentines. They believe they are white and are ashamed to say they are latinos. They are obsessed whith europe. The curious thing is to know that 56% of them indigenous blood in their DNA. They are sick! You can believe that this song is not just a criticsm of african players playing for the french team, there is a lot of racism there

  17. French players could easily destroy argentina song saying “we are proud of being african playing for france”. instead they decided to block enzo and make a complaint. Who is really more racist? 🤷🏼‍♂️

  18. I can't believe that English people call us "racists." I don't know why so much violence began to spread in Argentine soccer (what others tell us) but go back to history. Has Argentina ever sold black kidnappings? Has Argentina ever used them for trade? NEVER!! We are one of the countries that receives blacks every day so that they can carry out their activities. Europeans should wash their mouths before calling us racists. They only look for lawsuits. The song (football jokes) should not be taken so seriously, learn to take things lightly…when Germany insulted our players, we have never denounced…now an Englishman is just producing these notes??? hahahaha the English were the promoters of hatred against blacks

  19. How is the song racist? All it does is point out that the French team relies so much on players that are children from immigrant parents from Africa. Why cant France play with 100% native french players? 🤷😂

  20. His young and his not racist maybe stupid and naïve that why his team mates forgave him . Beside tell the whole side of the story. The France also did plenty of disrespecting and bad behaviour towards Argentina. Just at the Olympic Games they booed the Argentinean national anthem invaded the pitch and throw things at the players. No criticism there? he is one of if not the best player on that park. I strongly believe that this song is going to be a hit lol from now on every time France plays Argentina, as previously seen 80 thousand fans signing it at Enzo return visit to the Riverplate stadium Good luck Chelsea this season and if your a real Chelsea fan support your player who is still very young and wears your badge with honour. He will bring you joy. I like your post and agree with you on some things. yes it is a complicated world we live in today. I truly believe that you can see the other players who were signing on the bus. Its funny how others black players from other teams didn't come out in public social media to expose as racist there team mates, if that's what you want to call it. Maybe these Chelsea players are just hurting a little more then others from losing the World Cup to Argentina . Just a thought, and Enzo had to pay for it.

  21. Argentina abolished slavery 40 years before the United States, and never had colonies like France. Stop talking about racism where there is none, first look at your countries. Greetings
