After West Ham United’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, many fans commented they felt Lucas Paqueta had another poor game and deserved to be dropped with Carlos Soler and Crysencio Summerville now options for Julen Lopetegui. However it wasn’t all doom and gloom as Hammers supporters were generally impressed by the sides performance against the Premier League Champions

  1. I've a strong feelings its going to take Lopi & fanbase a whole season to realise playing without a striker fits ALL our array of attacking talent in one team & allows complete fluidity to baffle opposition

  2. A very reasoned take, a lot to be happy with but yes some frustrating sloppiness, especially that first goal that in the end shaped the result. Against City you need some luck and you need to restrict them having the luck, that’s the one failure in our performance though you can’t control it predictably. We showed great improvement and it will take time to form the togetherness to make what’s positive more consistent, but the style of football was very encouraging and in the end we lost 3 1 because we were pushing for an equaliser. If we had been a little closer to Harland in that match the result may have been different but then the line between giving him too much room and being too close with him ans having him escape you is a narrow one, you need to be close enough to cut his run off before he gets into full flight but hasn’t already left you for dead by turning you. We didn’t quite get that right sadly. .

  3. I don't think it's as easy as play him left or drop him for CS. We've been playing 433 without a fixed no.10 a lot. You can't play Kudus CM even less discipline than Paq who is comfortable dropping deeper to get the ball. He's key to our build-up and creativity.

  4. Paqueta's perforrmance, or lack of performance, is a multifaceted issue. Ive always wanted Paqueta to be more like Debruyne….who can also lose the ball at times, but is better, or appears better at picking the right pass, and achieving it. In my opinion Paqueta's best game was against England, for Brazil. He ran the game from the no 8 role, with the freedom to roam. He lost the ball in Brazil's last third on more than one occasion and his team mates just won it back….Paqueta's style actually suits MOYES'S system where everyone else than him is there to defend, or finish Paqueta's move.

  5. He’s probably got those betting charges clouding his mind. Also, he had hoped to be playing for man city by now. No excuse but players aren’t robots. They can’t just set emotions aside.

  6. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION

My personal preference would be "NO" don't drop Paqueta; my personal suggestion to Lopeotegui would be to have the bottle to COACH Paqueta. In my opinion (and I feel Pep would have done with him aswell) is to play him as a left sided 8, but someone has to give him a let's say a "stern word' (or harsher) and tell him to..

    STOP TAKING THE PISS.

Accept that your going to have to play behind the ball at times, and not every pass has to be a match winning one.

He has more than enough in terms of "defensive capabilities", is obviously outstanding on the ball, and is naturally left footed. Alvarez anchoring him and that back 4 should be enough as long as he's not messing around; he's done it once this season so far (played as a disciplined 8; and it was his best game for us so far this season. Yesterday, he was being silly on the ball IMO. Still want to see the midfield of Alvarez, Paqueta and Kudus. Think there is more than enough "everything" in terms of quality and balance, just need to be brave enough. But hey, I wanted to see a midfield of Rice, Paqueta (as the 8) and Fornals and was never once graced with it. I personally think Paqueta has everything required to play there. I'm pretty sure Pep would have played him as a left sided 8.

Yesterday, Pep trusted a midfield of Kovavic (hardly a DM) KDB and Bernardo Silva. I would argue the three I just selected for us has tonnes more defensively about it than their midfield yesterday but people have and would argue Alv, Paq and Kud is too offensive (not defensive enough) 🤷‍♂ If you see my point.

Their midfield was more than fine yesterday and way less defensive than a midfield of Alv, Paq and Kud. I'd play him as the 8 in that midfield just mentioned. Alv, Paq, Kudus, Summez, Bowen, Antonio would be my front 6. Back 4 of Emmy, Kilman, Mav (Todibo possibly once finding his feet) and AWB. Ball out. Paq as the 8 and has to be very switched on and happy to play at times behind the ball. Last thing, Summerville to accept staying behind his opposing number (the opposition LB).

  7. Emerson was the issue yesterday more than Paqueta.. I like Emerson greatly but yesterday 2 lapses of concentration and 2 goals.. sloppy overhit pass back to Paqueta and not close enough to Haaland for the second goal

  8. Mavropanos needs to stop make these runs because he loses the ball like almost all the time and in extremely dangerous positions and leads to goals since last season under Moyes

  9. I am giving the manager time to build this squad into a winning side it will take time and considering Moyse had two years of horrible football on the pitch home and away we can give him time to get his ideas put and vacationed into this team.

  10. Paqueta is simply not contributing considering his talent. Either give Soler a chance in his place or drop the equally ineffective Antonio, put Bowen up front, Kudus on the right and Summerville on the left

  11. The missing part of the puzzle is the fast quality Centre Forward that we should have bought ages ago. Our German addition, and ageing Antonio, are inadequate, and this is evidenced by their lack of goals and goal attempts. Have just watched Newcastle against Spurs, and their second goal speaks volumes. Maybe Paqueta would shine more with the addition of a required new fast quality Centre Forward. We need to spend good money on that position, or Steiden has to find an undiscovered pearl.

  12. I don’t think Lucas should be dropped. However, I think he should now be droppable. He seems to have existed in a untouchable category with us. To me he should be removed from that status. If he has a poor run, or an ineffective run, then he should be subject to a benching like everybody else. That said, we’re not there.

As for Emerson, there’s no doubt that he plays better when Paq is on the left, and I think that’s a big strike against him. If he can’t figure out how to play with other left wingers then I’m not sure he’s suited to be a starting LB.

  13. I’m worried Summerville is a Benrahma 2.0 – hopefully Lopetegui can develop him better than Moyes did Benrahma.

Agreed about your opinions on Paqueta. He deserves more leeway in loose passes because he’s the one probing and looking for the magic pass. Think we need to see fullkrug start and Antonio off the bench.

  14. I’m sort of astonished that some people are down on Kudus. In every game he has spent the early part of games probing opposition midfields and back lines. He may have lost the ball a lot, but in every single game as the games progressed, Mo has broken opposition lines wide open. Pep was ripping out his virtual hair when Mo got the ball. He singled him out after the game in the press conference. Mo is on the cusp of becoming a super star. That’s where he is right now. And I’ll be honest, when Mo had the option to square the ball to Antonio, in my head I was thinking, ‘shoot the ball, Mic will miss.’

Btw, good news is Alvarez didn’t get picked for Mexico.

  15. The first three games ( Villa,Palace and City) were tough games and i think West Ham has really done well with this current level of form. The other premier league teams below the Top Six aint also doing much apart from Brentford.
These are early stages of something that will be good .

Kudus must play centrally.Eventhough he hasnt got his name on the scoresheet he is still a threat.
He is being played out of position.
Actually Kudus was bought as Paquetta Replacement when everybody thought pac man ist on his way to City.
So theoritically Pacman is not supposed to be here. Kudus mus play in central attacking midfield. He is deadly in these zones. The first goal was orchestrated by Kudus.
Get that bloke on the right flanks or in the middle.Hard Luck he missed that opportunity. But it happens.
Thats a problem Loppy gotta solve and fix Asap.
Because Kudus is too good go be playing on the left.
He is being wasted there.simple as that.
The next four games sgainst Fulham, Chelsea,Ispwich town and Brentford at least 9 to 10 points must be aquired from these games.

  16. Paqueta is the man who provided the pass to win a European trophy, but don’t forget, Paqueta doesn’t make that pass if Tommy Soucek doesn’t flap at the ball and knock it down with his ass. It takes all sorts.
