Today we’re going to be talking about MY EURO 2020 PREDICTIONS! Going through who I think will be the tournament’s top scorer, underachievers, dark horses and the eventual winners!

First up, let’s talk about underachievers. This is a tough pick because so many teams are going to go through to the last 16. If only two progressed from each group I’d be looking at Group F and one of France, Germany or Portugal but I can see those all making it through when they beat Hungary. It’ll all come down to the last 16 and quarter finals. I think of those 3 teams, they’d all expect to reach the semi-finals but I feel like France or Germany could stutter whilst we expected the Netherlands to be one of the favourites when Koeman was in charge but under De Boer they look awful.
In terms of dark horses, outside bets that could cause a few upsets, I really fancy Italy. They’ve been resurgent under Roberto Mancini and their squad is stacked with quality players. Italy arguably have 3 of the best controlling midfielders in the world in Marco Verratti, Jorginho and Manuel Locatelli. With Mancini combining two of these, usually the latter two, with Nicollo Barella’s energy and intensity, Italy tend to have both control of the game and thrust from midfield. Combine this with a number of experienced internationals and exciting young players and Italy have the potential to reach the semi finals!

More of a long shot however is Senol Günes’ Turkey. They’re a very determined and dedicated team who run their hearts out for each other. This alone could get a team far in an international tournament but Turkey aren’t just grafters. They’ve got some serious ballers in their squad with the likes of Demiral, Calhanoglu, Tufan, Yazici and Yilmaz to name a few. Their hard working, well organised, counter attacking style is very similar to French Champions, Lille, and I think like Lille, Turkey will be more than a handful and that’s why they’re my Dark horses for Euro 2020.
When we’re talking about the Golden Boot winner or eventual top scorer, the further you go in the tournament the more chances you have to score goals. There are so many top quality forwards at Euro 2020, Mbappé, Kane, Ronaldo, Lukaku are the main goalscorers for teams that will go far, whilst the likes of Berardi, Ferran Torres and Burak Yilmaz are all decent outside shouts. But if i’m picking one to win it’s Romelu Lukaku. All of Belgium’s chances are focused towards Lukaku and he’s coming off his best goalscoring season of his career, scoring 25 goals and setting up another 11 in just 36 Serie A appearances. Again, more of an outside shot could be Turkey’s Burak Yilmaz who scored 7 goals in his last 7 appearances of the season for Lille.
And finally the eventual winners. I really think there are 5 or 6 teams who you could make a solid argument for them to lift the trophy.
Spain from the outset don’t look all that, but they’ve lost just once in their last 22 and beat Germany 6-0 in that run. England have one of the most stacked attacking units at Euro 2020 with the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho fighting it out for three spots. Whilst France are the current World Champions, Belgium the world number 1s and Portugal hold the European Championships and won the 2019 Nations League. And as much as I think the Germans could underachieve, it’s unwise to bet against 4 time World Cup winners.
