Inter Milan have reportedly submitted a 22 million euro offer to Benfica to recruit Brazilian defender Morato in the summer of 2024.
In response to this, Benfica firmly stated that they would not sell the 23-year-old left-footed defender.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola via FCInterNews, Benfica did not consider the Nerazzurri’s offer because they wanted a higher dowry.
It is no secret that Inter are trying to recruit a new defender before the summer transfer window closes.
Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has openly admitted that the depth in his team’s current defense is inadequate.
The cause is Tajon Buchanan’s injury, which will keep him out for the first few months of the 2024-25 season.
So, Carlos Augusto will return to play at wing-back to replace the injured Tajon Buchanan.
Therefore, Inter are also looking for a defender who can cover Alessandro Bastoni on the left side of the Three-man defense in a long and tiring season.
According to A Bola, Inter have now explored the opportunity to recruit Benfica defender Morato as a backup for Bastoni.
The newspaper claims that the Nerazzurri have submitted an offer to Benfica to secure the signature of the 23-year-old player.
Inter’s offer is worth €18 million plus €4 million add-ons, bringing the total value of the offer to €22 million.
However, Benfica rejected the offer. They expect a much higher offer to sell Morato.
