      This is beginning to be a very good tactical setup. Questions remain around whether this approach is what ten hag goes with, and of course injuries/poor form. But what matters is we are moving in the right direction and signing players that fit a system and a clear plan.

      No it doesn't make sense. If you take our current first team squad, we have 17 players who are of the age where they need to be registered in the A squad list for Uefa competitions, 15 for the PL as Hojlund and Yoro can be added for the PL B list but not Uefa (Haven't been here 2 seasons so don't qualify for B list). That means already as it is we have too many players and have to sell, most likely to be Pellistri. Alternatively, we would have to not register one of those 17 for Uefa competitions, which is not a good idea for squad harmony. If we want to add any more players it means selling and additional player or not registering another one.

      Currently our midfield options on the A list are:

      Casemiro
      Mount
      Eriksen
      McTominay

      We would struggle to move on any of the first three because of the wages they are on and we can't move McTominay on or we would have to leave a squad place open, defeating the purpose of selling in first place.

      We will also have Mainoo via the B list, and likely Collyer coming through also.

      So bottom line, we have depth at CM as it is, and adding another midfielder would be asinine as it would leave us with less depth than we need elsewhere.

      The only position we should even consider signing at this point would be a left footed CB who can also provide cover at left back, Hermoso being a suitable option. But even then there's really nobody else in the squad that we are likely to be able to move on to make space for him. Lindelof maybe being one we have a slim chance with but also unlikely given his wages.

      Ugarte to Utd makes sense. The only crazy thing i saw was you putting Shaw at LB because he wont ever be available. Just bin him

      For me, no, not really for 1 simple reason: his height. If you look at the best teams in the last 5 years or so they have all had 1 big guy in front of the defence that can help out aerially (Real (Casemiro), Liverpool (Fabinho), City (Fernandinho/Rodri), Arsenal (Rice)). With Mainoo (and Licha) in the starting eleven we need someone that is aerially dominant imo, hence why I would´ve signed Amadou Onana. With him going to Villa and there not being any other perfect fit on the market I wouldn´t mind us getting a cheaper stop gap option (Like Berge/Amrabat/Rabiot) this season and spend big on a CDM next summer instead.

      He’s definitely an enforcer. Noticed he also likes to push the ball up the field, but he puts his head down and doesn’t pass very well in such a situation. He’s still raw in that regard so hopefully ten hag can coach him up to be better at that.

      I would love Ugarte but he would not be my top 3 choice of midfielder to bring in. United NEED one tho so if Ugarte come it will be great

      Ugarte fills a roll MUFC lacks, and does it well. Ugarte has everything Casemiro has lost. Case still has his technic, but the legs and fire are gone. Let him play as Fat Frank Lampard or put someone else on match day team sheet.

      What people don’t get is that your 6 must not be the build up cog. At Madrid, Kroos had that role, and Casemiro usually pushed up and was used as a decoy to drag players while also being used to bounce passes around… At United we now have Onana, Lisandro, deligt, yoro, Dalot, mazraoui, Shaw, amass, Mainoo who all are adept at buildup. The 2-4 setup also utilizes this. Ugarte has a whole lot to offer and we have to maximize the skill set. Kante was almost indispensable as a DM but he almost never had to buildup role. PLAYING TO STRENGTHS IS KEY

      We're not buying Ugarte so he can sit on the bench and I don't see Casemiro sat on the bench either. We cannot have both. I would be very surprised if we got Ugarte and didn't show Casemiro the door. Ineos has already done a madness stretching the limited funds under this window's psr constraints.

      Gattuso was surrounded by good ball playing players. Ugarte could have martinez maino de lit dalot Bruno and maz around him, I don't mind him be simple on the ball

      If you've got Collyer, Ugarte and Casemiro, that's 3 defensive midfielders. Just like London buses, you wait years for 1 and then 3 turn up at once. Plus D mids are darn expensive a là Caicedo, so Ugarte is a great deal.

      Great video Dave. Love the idea of Casemiro and Ugarte in CM for those big games. You’d think however that a player like Vitinha who dictates from deep would be ETHs style of CDM…

      Only player J see Ugarte working with is Mainoo. That is because Mainoo makes good decisions with the ball. Otherwise, Ugarte next to Casemiro is just too risky. They’d win the ball back, but they’d lose it immediately. It’s a basketball game with that combination.
