Problem with fofana is that he seems more like an 8 than a 6. He plays more as a no.8 than a no.6 even though he can still play as a 6. Fofana and mainoo are similar players, so if we were to sign him, he'd start ahead of mainoo due to age and experience maybe.
If we need a defensve minded destroyer/cdm, then ugarte would be our only choice I believe.

Good video.. Fofana would have suited a transitional style of play that was played last season. In the coming season, positional and possession game would be priority thus a defensive midfielder needed would be the one who keeps things neat and tidy,press resistance and a first and second phased player to specialized in short and medium range passes. Such passes are meant to control the tempo of the game and the team structure to avoid chaotic moments.
Yoro and zirkzee are highly positional oriented technical players good with their feet.this is to show that system change is about controlled attack.
Fofana skillset doesnt fit into this system unfortunately and its possibly why man u can lose its interest on him.
i feel like there are so many different options out there for us when it comes to CM/CDM.
fofana in my opinion he’s an all round midfielder that can play as an 8 or as a 6. watching him he’s not bad at all in tackling a lot better than Kobbie.
for me he will be a perfect replacement for kobbie when he’s not in the starting 11.
And Rois too is similar in terms of his passes but a huge improvement on the defensive side. Rois is a tenacious ball winner.
I’ll love for Man Utd to buy all these CM/CDM. (aguarte included) but i don’t see us doing that because casemiro might stay this year at least.
Fofana would be the perfect option to bring in alongside Ugarte, allowing both Casemiro and McTominay to leave.
Midfield options of Ugarte, Mainoo, Fofana, Collyer, Mount and Bruno would be fantastic and the best we could hope for.
When you look at players like the Fletcher twins in the academy then United have players coming through over the next 2-3 years who could replace Bruno who is the oldest of the potential midfielders at the club. Meaning United might not have to sign another midfielder for 3 or 4 years. Allowing the club to focus on sorting the defence (where the biggest rebuild is needed) and a few tweaks to the forward line.
Thoughts on manu Kone? Could he be that ball winner alongside Kobbie mainoo? I know there’s no links but I’ve always appreciated the player and thought it odd he hasn’t gotten a bigger move yet
Wonderful analysis once again. Fofana would have to adapt his game to play as the deepest lying midfielder if Ugarte isn't bought, and possibly compete with Mainoo if Ugarte is bought. Hence we should only target either Ugarte or Fofana to ensure that Mainoo's progress will not be stunted.
I think we´ll only sign one midfielder, probably Ugarte. One injury and its back to McTominay.

In my opinion, I feel that United should sign Riccardo Calafiori. Not to play him mainly a left sided centre back, rather playing him as a left sided defensive midfielder in a 2 man midfield pivot. (I know Arsenal are wanting him but we could try grab him first.)
I feel his defensive attributes still needs tweaking, but overall he is a fantastic ball carrier and reader of the game.

with him, our midfield will not be able hold possession enough and go back to counter atk, i think there type of CDM that can make us better, someone who super press resistance and compose like Bosquet, Rodri, Carrick, Vierra, etc. or someone just strong, steady, and more simple like Rice, Casemiro, Fabinho. or destroyer with high intensity and ground cover but also decent on the ball like Kante or Gattuso. for me i prefer the first two type because they give us more stability in the league, when the last one give us more grit especially on cup competition when we against better team.
for all CDM that linked to us, i think Ugarte is the best of them just because he's calm enough to play possession and aggressive enough against better team.
Zubimendi will force us to play possession and if we fail our defense will be so much weaker (i feel like he's not big/strong enough, but if the plan works, he can make us play so much better).
for Fofana, he will boost our creativity, but it will force Mainoo to play 6 on double pivot, and i dont think its good for him as 19yo to weight that much responsibility, unless we keep Casemiro then that's different conversation.
I would rather put more to get what I need, we should sign Ugarte or Neves instead of Fofana
We should get Fofana, not as a DM alternative but as a Mctominay replacement…a very forward thinking midfielder looking to feed the attack or come up with a goal himself, looks the way better player compared to Mctominay.
He definitely should be Mainoo's alternative if Mainoo doesn't start.
Honestly apart from De Ligt, Ugarte and a fullback. I'd love to get Mandela Keita as the alternative DM, Fofana as the alternative 8(Kobbie's replacement)
Effectively replacing Maguire and/or Lindelof, Casemiro, AWB if he leaves, Mctominay (Fofana) and Eriksen(Keita as an apprentice DM)
