Adam Peaty Powers into 100m Breaststroke Semis Eyes Historic Third Gold
——
Adam Peaty advanced to the semi-finals of the 100m breaststroke at the Paris Olympics, clocking 59.18 seconds—second-fastest overall and just behind Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands. Peaty, who has overcome recent struggles with depression and alcohol, is aiming for a third consecutive Olympic gold, having previously defended his title at Tokyo 2021. China’s Qin Haiyang, who dominated the 2023 World Championships, was slower in the heats, recording 59.58 seconds. Fellow Briton James Wilby also qualified for the semis with a season-best 59.40. In other events, GB’s Keanna Macinnes made the semi-finals of the women’s 100m butterfly with a time of 57.90. Both GB men’s and women’s teams are set for the 4x100m freestyle relay final, while Kieran Bird missed the men’s 400m freestyle semi-finals.
