As an American fan of Luton, this brings me joy beyond joy!! Ethan deserve starting football. And he is definitely a Top-Tier Championship footballer.
That penalty you were talking about was not in World Cup qualifying, but rather the final of the concacaf nations league. Game was in extra time and we were up 3-2 and he made the save to seal the trophy. Started the game as the sub keeper but came in after our starter Steffen (who just got a loan as well from Man City to Middlesbrough) got hurt. He also played for Forest in that FA Cup tie against Liverpool and was spectacular. I think he’s starter quality in the championship and hopefully gets the chance because I believe he will show out when he does get that chance.
I once asked Ian Feuer why there have been quite a few American keepers in European football, especially Britain, yet comparatively few outfield American players when there's so much more scope there. He said that he thinks it's because Americans play a lot of sports that require 'hand/eye coordination' (his term, not mine) so goalkeeping is more natural to them.
