I have always felt that VVD was overrated. Remember watching him even back at Southampton and wondering what all the fuss was about and never understood why Liverpool would even buy him. He has always had an incredibly negative attitude, he is a defender that can’t tackle, which is just a strange thing to witness, and whenever he makes mistakes (which he has always done quite often) he blames everyone but himself. It is crazy that he’s considered one of the world’s best defenders by anyone.

Well there is a great player that is a miracle and that's Hancko. The miracle is that he still is at Feyenoord. 35 or 40 million pound. he was great in the dutch league but he is also great in the europa league and championsleague. on top of that he was one of the best defenders this last European championsship. and he can play left centre defender and leftback. even left winger back ( i mean in a 5-3-2 or 3-5-2. he scores pretty often too and give assists. where can you find a player like this at the moment exept for him.

I think you bring in his successor and use VvD to help train him up…then, over the next couple of years, you slowly transition the younger lad in and VvD out. Just makes sense to start reducing the amount of minutes played by Virg (to keep him fit/fresh enough to get the best out of him) and trained up a future prospect for when VvD moves on.
