It's good he steps down. He has developed the team great, but he was to scared in the final tournaments. England was always great in quali but after that he changed to much. To many wrong decisions. I belive that with a more brave manager england would have won the last 2 ec. No matter who takes over he has to be brave
Fair play to Southgate for getting a team together that actually wanted to represent England. There was no unity in the dressing room before Southgate and it showed on the pitch. Now its time for a dynamic manager who will get us one step further when it matters in a final

Thanks for the memories, Southgate. Didnt have to take on that mess after the Allardyce fiasco but did and turned it around. Took the team as far as he could and has stepped down at the right time. I think a role with the FA would suit him. He's done a lot behind the scene to get the set up in such a good place.

Glad he resigned but only because he didn't deserve the hatred and bile he received. A thoroughly good man and a patriotic man through and through. He delivered more in his tenure than any other manager yet the entitled bunch seems to believe England had a team that should have won. We are a bang average team with some good players who didn't deliver this time round. Spain are a class above and in all honesty 2-1 was actually a good result. Southgate can only bring England to the finals but he can never win it for England. Being in the finals is not winning a trophy.

Nice now England can go back to their usual trophy winning form that we’ve all come to know and expect over the last few decades. Big Gaz is the outlier compared to previous managers.
It’s a no brainier. Rode his luck for too long. Lacked passion. The England team were abysmal and relied on poor penalties by their opponents to get through by the skin of their teeth. The penalty against the Netherlands was questionable, even the English TV pundits were saying it wasn’t. A decent team shouldn’t not be reliant on such things.

Every single World Cup has been won by a team whose manager is the same nationality as the team.
France have only won it with French managers, Italy have only won it with Italian managers, same goes for Germany, Brazil and Argentina.
The same is true for the Euros but with one exception – Greece won it with a German manager in 2004.
He did a great job getting to semi’s and two finals at the WC and Euro’s. The team was a shambles when he took over tbf, but it is time for a change as he’s struggled to get the best out of these players and his pragmatic style of play is not suited to them and its damn boring for the fans to watch.
In 2021 he put the team in defense mode to hold the 1-0 score from 2'
In 2024 he equalises in 73' and again closes the team in defense while facing the best attacking team in the tournament.

People need to remember our nation has only ever won one international trophy. Southgate has done extremely well, it’s shouldn’t be an expectation that we win lots of trophies.

People seem to hate on the manager. It is our football culture that ruins our chance of winning. Do you think Italy care if they are defensive and win 1-0? No. Every Spain team plays a passing game from the age of 5!
We expect to win even though we don’t have the best team! We expect to play attacking football all the time.
Do I agree with all his decision absolutely not but I am proud of the boss for getting to another final. I remember the golden generation failure after failure.

Graham Potter needs to be next manager. Forward thinking, positive football, excellent tactically in game with an emphasis on controlling possession. His negative experience with Chelsea will only give him more of a point to prove.
